They are clearly going the free agent road, in regard to the corner position. Does anyone really think that they are going to start a 3rd round pick at corner in this division?

Tariq Woolen was a 5th Rd pick last year. He led the league in INTs and made the Pro Bowl.

Like this pick. Pretty clear now the 5th yr option isnt being picked up. Whether he sits behind Queen for a yr or Queen is traded seems we have made the decision to move on.

Agree let him learn b hind PQ and he takes over next year! Love the speed!

They'll get a good look at him in camp and preseason games.  If he looks great, Queen's days could be numbered.

Maybe I'm mis-reading, or not understanding what you mean here. But PFF did not have him ranked #1 in the LB class. He was their 5th. (still high ranking) And they highlighted his inability in coverage to locate his man, or locate the ball while in coverage. And even mention he is raw in the middle, only playing one season at ILB. And he has issues approaching, and getting through traffic. Also, for as much as he played coverage roles, he had 0 INT's and 2 career pass break-ups.

He's Patrick Queen 2.0. They probably aren't picking up Queen's 5th year option. And this is their immediate contingency plan. That's fine. Would have preferred Ringo. Another prospect ranked well above where we were picking, except he would give us potential at a huge postion of need.

It sounds like he played best as an "overhang" safety/LB hybrid. He was forced into more of a true LB role this year and struggled a bit more. We have a slight need there assuming Hamilton goes back to the normal safety position to backfill Clark this year. This is assuming Simpson can actually cover the slot in the NFL.

I'm okay with PQ2.0 from a 3rd rounder, especially since we have a true Mike that can cover his mistakes.

It could be lazy but he does feel a lot like Queen. Except, as mentioned, you get him near the 3rd and not end of the 1st. The blurb Simms had on him said hes a solid tackler while PQ out here whiffing a lot. Otherwise a lot of trait and skill comparisons between the two.
