The outfield defense has been less than stellar these first two games, to say the least. But the defense notwithstanding, the pitching has had its issues at the outset as well.

If you showed me the defensive low-lights for the 2023 season, I would expect the EIGHT plays the OFers didn't make to be the low-light reel.
We've accumulated that in 2 games.
I expected OF defense to be one of the strengths of this team. It's not like Fenway is new to any of these guys. They've all played dozens of games there.
I said this earlier in this thread. Being at Fenway had zero to do with the piss poor OF defense today. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. Not a single one of those was misplayed ball off the wall. Of misjudging how high off the wall or over it was going to be. Those mistakes wouldn't have been any different on any field....well except maybe little league on a field that doesn't even have an outfield fence.

Pitching hasnt been smooth but the D has let them down quite a bit. Pen did a good enough job today. Shoulda covered the 6 innings with some runs to spare. Kremer obv not good.

Not sure what else we needed to see.
He’s in full on September suck mode, overthinking the lineup. Mullins bats 8th against a lefty and homers and Urias batting leadoff Ks 5 times.
Friggin pen Mullins into the leadoff spot, make 160 copies of the lineup, and stop thinking about it.

It is wild to me that Hyde won about 30 more games than he was supposed to last year with a team almost devoid of established talent, was almost certainly one of the frontrunners for manager of the year, and people want him fired after two games because a typically surehanded outfielder made a dumbass mistake.
For me it’s because I don’t expect a tiger to change their stripes. He mismanaged September, and this is a team supposedly on the come up. If you think they are able to be better and play meaningful ball in September for the foreseeable future, I want someone else.
He’s already batting his 30/30 candidate 8th against LHP. Another fireable offense even just two games in. Mullins told him to stick it up his ass with a 439’ blast off said LHP while his leadoff replacement Ks 5 times.
But Elias and Angelos have zero buy in on this team. So does it even matter which warm body makes a lineup and calls to the pen? Elias might as well manage the games and save his boss a few million. None of this really matters when the top brass DGAF.

I will give you the the lineup thing. Feels like he's trying to outsmart someone in the other dugout. With that said the last point of yours is the most important one. Until the FO and ownership buy in, its difficult to get too high or low about this team. For me it’s because I don’t expect a tiger to change their stripes. Mullins hit lefties in '21.... but he had .578 OPS vs. LHP in '22. IMO there is no world where its a fireable offense to bat Mullins 8th there.

I'm not a big proponent of batting order mattering much. You just want your best hitters getting the most ABs. My ideal lineup would have Rutschman, Henderson, Mullins, all near the top.
*Strat-O-Matic basic version only.

That was the only version I played! The advanced game sucked in my opinion and wasn't nearly as accurate.

Bite your tongue. Never ever ever say anything even slightly negative about anything to do with Strat.

I once replayed the Orioles 1969 season...had all the teams and followed the exact same schedule. They won 112 games and from there, I went directly to the World Series and they swept the Mets in 4 games! Sweet revenge!
