Bob where would you slot Hernaiz if he was still in this organization? Right behind Westburg? Any argument to be ahead of Westburg?
No argument for ahead of Westburg. Probably in the 12-15 range.

Not sure about the run evironment but Hernaiz hitting really well in AA as a 21 yr old. Ouch. Oh, and yeah, Irvin is pretty trash. He has a lot of team control left but the likelyhood he is non tendered or DFA'd before '25 is quite high.
Also got Kyle Virbitsky who has been very good after a very rough start.

He has to be top 10 IMO. Would happily trade Norby to get him back for example.

I wouldn’t. I’d have Basallo, Povich, Hall, and Fabian over him too.

Norby has no defensive position and is older. Easy decision hypothetically. Ill happily pass on headcase 1 and 2,otherwise known as Hall and Povich, being ahead of him as well. Now, maybe the run environment is way higher in his AA league than the Eastern League but I doubt it.

Norby has improved at second base but he’ll never be above average. Just think he’ll be a consistently dependable bat. But also think he is ahead of Westburg now as far as guys who will be traded.
Not trying to downplay Hernaiz, I still like him a lot. And you could certainly argue top 10 but I think I’d have him in the 12-15 range. Along the lines of Prieto.

Hernaiz has a 131 wRC+ in AA. Norby had a 157 in AA last year.
Norby was ostensibly older, 22 in AA vs 21 for Hernaiz this year. But that is misleading because Norby was a June birthday and Hernaiz August, so he was really just two months older at the level.
Being capable of SS vs adequate at 2B is definitely better. No idea how Hernaiz's fielding is. The pre-2022 fangraphs Orioles article was not sure if he would stick at SS, I haven't seen anything more recent.
A better bat vs a better glove, one can have a preference, I wouldn't say it is an "easy decision."

Hyperbole but Id make the trade and I dont dislike Norby. Just think he is mostly positionless.

Mayo is an absolute beast man. Just tearing up AA at 21 yrs old. 1.051 OPS over half a season worth of ABs at any level is insane. 47 XBH in 72 games!!
Wouldn’t be surprised if he was traded for A pitcher, like Dylan Cease (sp).

I think Elias is going to be very prudent with the top 5-7 prospects in the Oriole system. I am not sure we will be willing to spend any of the best to get a TOR type. I am not sure I would either.

Think it might be Cowser time. He was a late scratch from the Norfolk game tonight and they’re DFA’ing Vallimont to clear room on the 40 man for someone.
Haven’t got confirmation tho.
Good call Bob.

Bob, is Handley still a legit backup option for Adley longterm? Still love his defense? Obviously McCann is here now and likely next year.

Yeah his defense is pretty legit. So is Ardoin’s. Not sure if the bat will ever be for either of them tho. Think long term is one of Creed Willems or Basallo can be 1B/DH + backup catcher.

I think if Adley is going to continue to DH 30% of the time, it would be good if we had a legitimate player who can serve as a third catcher and also play a second position, and not be a zero with the bat
