I think Mayo is a prime candidate to go this deadline along with Westburg. I know you could move both around the field. Undoubtedly legit prospects but RH hitters that are both best suited for 3b. Gunnar is there for the forseeable futute. I see the path for Cowser and Holliday and even an Ortiz in Baltimore. I dont know that I value Ortiz more than Westburg or Mayo but I see a path for him in BMore and I think Mayo and Westburg have more trade value. So you move the excess value at a position thats covered in MLB. Could also see Bassalo traded too btw.

If there was a young Will Clark ascending the system I could see what you're saying, but the Orioles need a legit bat at 1B (Santander is a placeholder). Mayo's got the body type for 1B. Westburg would fetch more in a trade though. Right?

Im not sure Wedtburg is more valuabe than Mayo at this point tbh. I know he just broke onto the baseball america list. Think that was the one he broke onto recently. Anyway at this point I think hes trending towards being a consensus top 60 guy.

Btw Ive said it before and so has Bob. We both see Kjerstad as the 1b of the future. Kjerstad I forgot to mention in the post above but I see his path in Baltimore too. I think he is a guy they would prefer to keep as a LH bat and 1b/OF guy. All this said they might have to make a hard decision and trade a Kjerstad or Ortiz and maybe even Cowser. I just think if we are talking the clubs recent top 100 prospect guys with the assumption that Holliday is off limits that the preference is to trade Westburg, Norby and Mayo.

I didn't realize Westburg was already 24. I knew he went to Miss St, but yet another instance of the years blurring post-pandemic.

Also will have to be added to the 40 man after this year if still in the org. Mayo wont have to be added til after next year as a HS pick.

Its interesting to me theyve not given Westburg a look yet. The age being a piece of that equation too. I got criticized earlier this year for wondering about his D. I also said I felt like they may not be as high on him as other guys like Cowser and even Ortiz. Maybe its simply the numbers game at the ML level. Urias, Gunnar, Frazier and Mateo are all MLB caliber players. I just cant help but feel there is more though. Whether thats questions about his defense or something else. Hes getting the Stowers treatment in a lot of ways and we understand a bit more now why Stowers was getting the Stowers treatment.

I guess the biggest knock on Westburg is that he's likely a platoon bat, and considering his difficulty with LHP at AAA, he's not going to be penciled into lineups when a LH is on the mound.

Hadnt looked at his splits. Is he that much better vs RHP than LHP? Thats an interesting angle as well if he has strong reverse splits

Keith Law was raving about him earlier this week. I’m convinced his bat is going to be upper echelon. Good point about the splits though, CJ.

I’ve always thought it was smart to sell high on your prospects you feel the value doesn’t align with your own internal prognosis. Nobody knows these guys better than our FO. Be smart and cash in at peak value - whether that’s on field production from them or other players coming back you like more or who can help now, get the most from their market value.

There’s so much we don’t know with these guys. I hope they trade away the right pieces. You’re always going to have guys get traded and succeed, but I hope they can trade the right guys. Atlanta, San Francisco, New York and others come to mind as FO’s who seem to do this part well.

Keith Law referred to him as “an everyday player for somebody right now” on 105.7’s Vinny and Haynie this week.

This year (not including today)

vs RHP .314 / .384 / .660 / 1.043

vs LHP .216 / .344 / .314 / .658

That .344 OBP vs LHP suggests its fixable cuz of his eye, but otherwise...Ouch.

Very interesting. If anything being that strong vs the righties is a plus overall. But still an interesting angle I hadnt noticed.

The similarity to Stowers is that they both have swing and miss in their game which could explain why it always takes time for Westburg to adjust when he gets promoted to a new level.

Yup. OPS now sitting at 1.014. There's absolutely no reason for him to be at Bowie any longer. Quite a log jam at AA/AAA between Westburg, Norby, Mayo, Prieto, Ortiz.

But getting back to Mayo it will be interesring to see how high his prospects can climb. Hes a corner INF or corner OF. I know he has a rocket but I have no clue how good or bad his actions and hands are at 3b. If evaluators dont think he can stick and will have to move it hurts the profile and upside of his prospect ranking.

Not sure about the run evironment but Hernaiz hitting really well in AA as a 21 yr old. Ouch. Oh, and yeah, Irvin is pretty trash. He has a lot of team control left but the likelyhood he is non tendered or DFA'd before '25 is quite high.

Just surprising Elias took on Irvin. I know he struck out on SP in FA but it was pretty apparent looking at the splits how much Oakland Coliseum helped him. Prob unlikely they drop him this year but despite '24 being only his first arb year its possible he is non tendered.

Gonna need SP again next year. Gibson will have to be replaced or re-signed. Wells, Kremer, and Bradish are near locks depending on health. Rodriguez will be back. Not much in the upper minors unless you're team Povich.
