ESPN: Way-too-early 2023 MLB starting rotation rankings

26. Orioles

Game score W/L: 62-100, .383

Average game score: 49.7

Dominance rank: 20 | Consistency rank: 19

Gems: 28 | Eggs: 29

Rotation: Cole Irvin (8-21), Kyle Gibson (10-19), Dean Kremer (8-19), Kyle Bradish (11-15), Tyler Wells (4-6), Grayson Rodriguez (12-13), DL Hall (6-3), John Means (3-5)

It doesn't look good on paper, but the Orioles have been putting their systems in place under Mike Elias for a few years now. You hope there is a reason they identified Irvin and Gibson as the veterans who can provide stability as Rodriguez, Hall, Bradish and all the young hurlers find their way. The Orioles showed some real strength in the way they built their bullpen last season, so maybe they can make a similar leap in the starting pitching department.

26th overall seems low to me. I'd be pretty disappointed and surprised if the O's weren't middle of the pack rotation wise. IMO, there's upside to be better.

I think on paper, 26th is probably just about right. With that said, they've shown in the past an ability to get more out of their starters than expected. My guess is they wind up in the 18-20 range with a top 5 bullpen.

Maybe a bit low because of the depth which should limit the downside.  But there is a lot of risk and zero certainty.

Last year, for reference, the SP staff was 23rd in IP and 21st in ERA.  That's 25th in fWAR.  Can't find a bb-Ref WAR for only SP, but I'd imagine its similar because the team ERA was similar to the xFIP and FIP.

If they reach middle of the pack, that'll be a pretty terrific result.

It feels like 3 or 4 spots low to me.  I think like always it comes down to who regresses or progresses and of course how hard Grayson kicks the door in.
