But where would they go? What city on the relocation short-list has a suitable temporary facility that could accommodate them in 2024-25 until a new place is built? Only place that comes to mind is Montreal.

I would think if they were seriously entertaining leaving we'd be seeing smoke from the potential landing spots. Of course to fully take advantage of the negotiating leverage the relocation card provides, you typically have to appear ready to follow through on it. But given Baltimore's history, maybe John simply sees the memories of the Colts leaving as being enough to really put the screws to the public.

They could go to NOLA and temporarily play in the Superdome.

My understanding is that when they did the big renovation in the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina, what were originally removable seats were cast in concrete and became permanently affixed to the seating bowl. When they did that, it meant the stadium could no longer be reconfigured into something suitable for MLB.

Plus I'm not sure New Orleans or Louisiana is that eager to spend $1B-plus on a new baseball stadium.

Vanderbilt is a big time college baseball program. Dont know where they play. Assume on campus. Dont know what their field looks like. Maybe MLB wouldnt approve of playing there. But they might or they could find another suitable place in Tenn for a few years.

MLB and the Union weren't comfortable with games being played at Buffalo... they required upgrades to that AAA stadium. Vanderbilt plays in a college stadium.

You think MLB is going to approve moving the Orioles to one of the few markets that could possibly support an MLB team.... when they have Oakland and Tampa Bay needing new homes?

It appears they're going to be building a new $2B stadium for the Titans, nearly half of which will come via public money. I wouldn't be so sure that Nashville is going to have the appetite to spend even more money for a state-of-the-art baseball stadium right now.

Move the Rays or A’s to Baltimore. Let John go wherever he can If he agrees to dissolve MASN. Have the Cal/Lucchino group buy in if the other owner doesn’t want to be here. Or trade the other franchise to Angelos and leave the O’s here with the new owners, it was only 20 years ago MLB did a similar swap. Everyone (except fans in Oakland/TB I suppose) is happy. We are finally rid of the family.

17,500 per game last year. That's terrible, but no college stadium is a viable option even as a stopgap.

Maybe a AAA stadium that can see 10-15k. Like the place in Buffalo the Jays played in 2020. Probably need a real solution for the team to actually go anywhere.

Same press release would've bee made or was made in the spring of '82. If there was a commitment then the extension woul'dve been signed while they worked on a long term deal.

Curious if anyone knows if the Angeloses were big donors to Moore's campaign? Kinda feels like maybe they're waiting for Moore to get all new people on the commission who'll give the O's everything they want.

Probably. Know Plank was.

Camden Yards is going to have big changes.
Reduction of seats, more places like the cf bar. Probably gambling aspects.

More build up of the spaces between the stadiums. Going to build an entertainment district.

I know that as Orioles fans we've been trained to expect the worst, but I don't think this article is nothing. I won't feel entirely comfortable until a lease is signed but it's at least a sign that something is happening and explains why they haven't signed yet.

I know it’s flashy and all, but “entertainment districts” (if I’m interpreting it properly) suck. They are huge and sit largely empty except for game days. On game days you and a friend can get a couple beers and a couple apps and your tab is damn near $100 after tip. And the food is the same crap you probably get in the stadium. If it’s anything like they have in Philly, I hate those places. Philly’s location kind of demands it because there isn’t anything near the park. One of the closer bars will shuttle you to the game.

St. Louis opened “Ballpark Village” across the street from left center field a few years back. It actually is built into the sight lines of the stadium so from home plate it looks like it’s part of the stadium. Looks nice. Rooftop stadium seats on top of one of the restaurants. But it’s a ghost town except for 81ish days a year. And way overpriced the one time we pregamed there. Atlanta, same deal. It’s all stuff better suited for the inner harbor. Atlanta had a PBR and the same stuff Baltimore already has. Baltimore doesn’t need a second location of corporate conglomerates collecting dust most of the year, do they?

I’d rather they just renovate some places nearby into neighborhood bars that actually open on not game days to serve the public. I don’t know if its still there, or still vacant. But I used to walk down Portland St. all the time from where I parked. There was a large, vacant, something, just past Quigleys. I always thought that would have been the perfect place to open a sizable bar/restaurant/live music venue.

Also haven’t been there in a decade, (it was also in December) hope it hasn’t changed into corporate awfulness, but Wrigleyville is more my jam.

Largely agree.

The spot you're referring to on Portland is now apartments. https://www.zahlco.com/613-portland

That's the place! It had to be empty for at least 15 years.

Obviously there's plenty of bars and restaurants nearby in downtown and Fed, plus the casino and topgolf, but neighboring Pigtown will soon have 4 breweries along with some bars so I think there's plenty of options for pre and post gaming near the park.

The space in between the stadiums could be further developed, but as Randall is saying, please no Power Plant 2. Do something authentic.
