Ravens passed on Akers, who was traded for essentially a bag of peanuts. (Akers in exchange for a 2026 pick swap from 7th round to 6 round.... lol)

Pretty obvious they were passing after they brought Drake back in. Drake was solid last year. Who knows how his legs are this year though. Gordon will have to get some run this week if Hill is out. Gordon is decent in pass pro and can catch a bit out of the backfield. It may be his one shot to have a chance of staying in the organization

I think his cap hit would have been 6 M.  Too much considering where we are cap wise.

I thought it was telling Gordon never saw the field last week.  I agree, it may be go time for Gordon.  Also keep in mind Mitchell may be able to return by week 5.

His base is only 1.4M so that doesn't seem right, I think 6M was his entire deal. A lot of people are saying he's a head case and they tried to trade him for the past year. Since he only yielded a pick swap two and a half years from now that would make sense, they basically took anything they could get.

Ravens are really all in on the "running backs don't matter" mantra.

It's all good, Drake probably has some juice left in his legs.  At least until Keaton Mitchell gets healthy.

I think that if the NFLPA wants to help out running backs, they should be advocating rule changes to make passing harder.  3 yards from LOS where there's no DPI instead of 1, 10 yards for pre-throw contact instead of 5.  Reduce the outcomes on pass plays and you'll make running plays comparatively more valuable.

Good ideas, but I doubt whether they do it.

Nice article about Smith and Queen.  Interesting thoughts form Matt Ryan.

Passing yards have actually been going down (was 235-240 y/game per team in 2018-2020, 218 and 216 last year and this year) so that doesn't seem too likely.

Linderbaum, Stanley, Oweh, and Humphrey haven't practiced yet so I have to assume they aren't likely to play.

I doubt it.  Add OBJ to that list too.

Just my opinion but passing yards are down because teams are loading up on cover-2 schemes with the deep guys all the way out in Narnia presnap to prevent guys like Hill or Chase or Waddle from burning you and running in for an easy touchdown.  So QBs are settling for underneath throws.  But these underneath throws are still more valuable than running plays for most teams, so it's really not changing the calculus for running vs passing, just changing the types of passing plays called.

But throws less than 5 air yards from the LOS aren't all that interesting.  Certainly no more interesting than 3 yards and a cloud of dust.  Ain't no one getting excited over a WR screen unless the WR jukes a couple of DBs out of their shoes.  By making these short balls more risky it will force more downfield attempts or more running plays.

Yeah forgot him. Colts are banged up too, could be missing two starting lineman and a CB in addition to Richardson.

James Boyd
@RomeovilleKid
#Colts QB Anthony Richardson (concussion), C Ryan Kelly (concussion), LG Quenton Nelson (toe) and CB Kenny Moore II (knee) are not practicing today.

If fantasy football analysis is to be believed, he was supposed to be heavily featured in the offense this season.  That went out the window after one week.  Luckily I picked up his replacement on the wire.

I gotta disagree here. What else are the Ravens supposed to do at RB? Trading for Jonathan Taylor, especially at the Colts' reported asking price, makes no sense. It's not like there's anyone on the street that would be an upgrade.

Cam Akers could have been had for a bag of potatoes.

Maybe he just needs a change of scenery, but when a guy with talent can’t get on the field and goes for a 6th-7th swap two drafts away I feel like the league knows something we don’t.

Smattering of just a few results from a quick search of Ravens clock management issues... headline bold, a snippet from the article below...  In a league where one game frequently means the difference between home vs away in playoffs, or home for playoffs vs in the playoffs, you'd like your cheerleader coach to contribute a little more on the game management side. The 2012 AFC Title game item being maybe the most insane and incompetent of them all, given the gravity of the situation, time left, and the timeout he took to the golf course with him.

He's gonna do it again at least once or twice this season. Every, single. year.

Jan-23-2012
Billy Cundiff: The Ravens kicker rushed his kick because of an error on the Gillette Stadium scoreboard.
"...The Ravens, of course, could have made all this confusion moot by calling a timeout. Instead, coach John Harbaugh decided to let Cundiff run on the field and kick..."

Oct-22-2015
John Harbaugh: Ravens’ clock management problems are on me
"...The Ravens had the ball at their own 20-yard line with 1:02 left in the game and ended up running out of time with the ball at the 49ers’ 35-yard line. Harbaugh admits that after the Ravens’ first completed pass gained 18 yards, Baltimore let too much time run off the clock and should have spiked the ball to stop the clock..."

Dec-11-2017
Ravens ran out of time vs. Steelers because a fumble can’t stop the clock
"...Apparently, the Ravens didn’t know the rule, though. The team attempted to huddle while the clock ticked down to zero and ended the game. Now they know..."

Jan-16-2023
John Harbaugh explains perplexing clock mismanagement in final moments of Ravens loss to Bengals
"...The Ravens faced a hurry-up situation in the game's final minutes while attempting to rally from a seven-point deficit. Yet they allowed valuable time to tick off the clock and finished the game with a timeout they can't take with them to next season..."
