Im surprised they even tendered him that. I still wouldnt bet on him being on the final rosterAnd Jeff Z says Huntley is getting the low tender. Means they can match an offer but wouldn't get compensation if they don't.

Can't imagine teams will be breaking down the door for Tyler Huntley, despite his pro bowl season.
You won't find a cheaper option in free agency than what Huntley's tender will be ($2.6 million, I believe).

I think Huntley is linked to Jackson's status. Huntley is a pretty good understudy for Lamar, so it makes sense to keep him if we work things out with Jackson.

Meh. I expect with a new offense Monken and Harbs will be abe to use a more traditional backup QB. Huntley does nothing well tbh. But hes def a cheap backup option so he can compete with Brown or other rookies for the #2 job.

That's fair. I do think the organization has an affinity for Huntley, he's relatively cheap and a serviceable, unspectacular backup. I am intrigued by Anthony Brown though and I fully expect us to draft Stetson Bennett.

Jamison Hensley
@jamisonhensley
QB Tyler Huntley was the only one of the Ravens' six restricted free agents to receive a tender.
That means these five players are free agents:
S Geno Stone
LS Nick Moore
C-G Trystan Colon
ILB Kristian Welch
LB Del’Shawn Phillips

Already knew Stone, other than that Moore is a little surprising, but maybe that's just how it goes for LS. Might be a barely over the minimum type of thing, not a tender.

I was acquaintances with former Ravens LS Matt Katula (our kids went to the same pre school) and I picked his brain about his contract because I fascinated about NFL contract structure in general. Also, I was fascinated that a long snapper got a long term deal.
He said it was pretty cool when he got the check for his signing bonus.
Interesting side note, Katula and his family purchased Kyle Boller's house in Owings Mills after Boller was released. Matt and his wife said they attended several parties that Boller hosted and it was quite a scene. Matt's wife said they got the entire house steam cleaned. LOL

Would've tendered Stone over Huntley. He's a much better player at his position and I don't think there's a huge difference between Huntley and Brown or any other back up QB we could draft/sign.
It's possible that Stone could be had a bit cheaper than the tender, perhaps? Although I was surprised that we wouldn't be more aggressive in retaining Stone, particularly after moving Chuck Clark. Maybe Stephens will play a more hybrid role next year, since he has experience at both safety and corner.
I tend to agree about Huntley but I do think the organization has a soft spot for him and he's been a good soldier. Plus, 2ish mill for a competent back up QB is a relative bargain.

Yeah, 2 something for a backup QB probably fits the budget more than 2 something for a backup S. I would be happy to have Stone back, but they probably want a better price and as you say Stephens could probably do similarly and he's already under contract.

That’s because they are gonna draft Stetson Bennet in the latter rounds to be their backup!

I wouldn't be THAT surprised, would you? He'd make a decent 7th rounder.

I’m fine with him as a backup but not the starter! Guarantee Monken has given all the intel on him to EDC.

Pretty sure the Ravens won't draft him in the 7th Round.

I never have a good read on how some of those middling QB prospects are viewed. With Bennett it seems like it would be as much about his character as his abilities.

That was just another way of saying the Ravens don't have a 7th Rd pick.
And I actually think he'll more likely be off the board by then.
