Following their big victory over Ohio State last weekend, Maryland will travel up to Iowa City for a Sunday afternoon matchup versus the Hawkeyes. Head coach Fran McCaffery's team currently holds a record of 11-6 (3-3), and have won their last three games in a row against Indiana, Rutgers, and Michigan. Last season, they were Big Ten Tournament champions and earned a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament before being knocked out in the first round by Richmond.
They're led by junior forward Kris Murray, whose brother Keegan led the team in scoring last season and has since moved on to the NBA with the Sacramento Kings. Kris is averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds per game, shooting 52% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. As he goes, so the Hawkeyes go. When he missed a few games with an injury earlier in the year, they suffered losses to Wisconsin and Eastern Illinois. Serbian center Filip Rebrača will be a matchup issue for Maryland, standing 6'9" and currently leading Iowa in three-point shooting percentage. Fran's sons Patrick and Connor both receive extensive minutes, and average 13 and 8 points per game, respectively. As is typically the case for his teams, playing adequate defense is very optional.
The last time Maryland beat Iowa on the road was during the 2018-19 season, where they won a one-point thriller that ended when Jordan Bohannon missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.
