No Ohio State and Michigan on the schedule...but USC, Oregon, and Penn State. Other 9 games winnable, though they will be dogs in several.
Probably a similar 7-8 win year. And at that point I could see a change being made.
But who knows...lose 50-10 to Michigan, and lose to Rutgers... then maybe there is a hook after 23.

I really struggle to see where they’re getting that money, especially after watching how difficult it was for them to scrape together funding for the basketball facility.
If they fire him after 2024, the buyout goes down to about $12.5 million which is still pretty steep. After 2025, that’s down to about $8.5 million so I have to assume he coaches at least through next season and into 2025.
Again, this all assumes a 65% buyout. I couldn’t find any information on an updated clause for his extension.
To put things into perspective, Maryland paid Randy Edsall less than $3 million when they fired him in 2015.

Provided that the contract extension Locksley signed before this season didn’t change the 65% buyout clause of his original contract, they’d be on the hook for approximately $16.3 million if they fired him after this year. That doesn’t include buyouts for all of his assistant coaches, so you can probably round that up to at least $17.5 million or so.

If you're going to spend $16M, keep Locksley and spend it on players. But yeah they aren't spending $16M.

Doesn't his new contract automatically get an extra year tacked on if they win 7 regular season games?

Correct, but only if that happens this season. His 2028 salary would be $7 million, so add about $4.6 million to each buyout number if that hits.

Locksley will be the Terps HC for next 3 years, minimum.

So... Jimbo Fisher's buyout from Texas A&M apparently includes no offset considerations, so it seems he gets the whole $76 million from them even if he takes another job. If for example he gets another gig at 6 years for $60 million (just making up numbers here)... that doesn't come "off" the invoice that the Aggies still owe him. He gets it ALL! Brilliant on his part.
I think Maryland needs to roll the dice on a big name HC to ever become a credible football program in the conference. Any hope that maybe he is willing to take a "not huge contract" and the challenge of getting UMD around the corner?
I mean, the bar is so much lower in College Park than it was at A&M or FSU. He doesn't need to win a title here, or even the conference. Just get MD to the point where they don't lay eggs against the NW / Illinois types, and OCCASIONALLY beat a PSU, Michigan, or Ohio State when they're not "way down" for a year or two... and he's a legitimate hero here. Dude has won a national title and actually beaten ranked teams. That guaranteed $76 million coming his way no matter what is a nice safety net for a 58 year old with not much left to prove (in my mind).
I know it won't happen... but daydreaming is fine...
Yeah, no one noteworthy wants to come here.
9 of the 10 richest counties in America per capita surround the school, and they are donor poor. Their biggest donor hasn't been CEO of his own company for 4 or 5 years now.
School administration has been a joke and the athletic department even more so.
This is a place for the DJ Durkin's and the Mike Locksley's of the world to coach. A coordinator of a good unit who isn't fit for a head coaching job. But we'll give them one anyway.

Maryland announces that Keith Moore, better known as "Special K", has passed away. If you've been to a Maryland football game any time in the last four decades, you're familiar with him and his unwavering love of the team. Big loss for the program and the community as a whole.

Several sources indicated Josh Gattis interviewed for the Oregon State head coaching position. They hired Trent Bray yesterday, so he won't get that job.
