Sounds like Cavanaugh may need some new sources. Jeff Ermann saying neither of those hires are happening.

Lol.  Sorry if it ends up being false.  He made the claim on Bob Haynie's show at lunchtime today.

Maryland reportedly hiring Josh Gattis as its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. I guess the second time’s the charm?

Also sounds like I may have jumped the gun when I said Locksley wouldn’t be serving as the primary play-caller this season. That looks to be the current plan, with Sumlin and Gattis playing big roles in game planning. I’d also assume Sumlin will assist with game/clock management as the assistant head coach.

The shine really wore off on Gattis last year, between the offensive struggles at Miami and Michigan not missing a beat at all without him. And it would be incredibly ironic if Gattis was doing game planning while Locksley called plays, since they had a very public feud over that very topic after they left Alabama in 2018. And I stand by my position that Locksley should not be calling plays as the head coach anyway.

Suffice to say I don’t view any of this as good news. Lol

Zac Spavital will be the new safeties coach. He was last the DC at Texas State where his brother Jake was the former HC.

Well that's...interesting. Must have gotten a significant raise.

Making this a local hire will be key, Brooks was one of the few guys with local ties left on the staff.

Which is probably why VT was ready to cut a big check for him. Would expect more local recruiting battles with them.

No doubt. Have to wonder if he'll take any of the RBs on the roster with him. Ramon Brown was committed to VT before flipping to Maryland, definitely a chance he flips back.

Reports say that Maryland is targeting ECU tight ends coach Latrell Scott to replace Brooks. Former Norfolk State, Virginia State, and Richmond head coach, with extensive local ties.

Recruiting analyst Gary Wortham, Jr. is leaving the program. No word yet on where he’s headed, but a big loss nonetheless.

Maryland makes Scott's hire official. He joins Kevin Sumlin as the second former head coach added to the coaching staff this year.

Today is the first day of Maryland's spring practice schedule, which concludes at the end of April.

It does sound like it'll be Josh Gattis calling plays this year, not Locksley as originally was rumored. Though he did make the point of saying this is the same offense that's been run since 2019, and very little will change.

It still seems so bizarre that Gattis is on the staff after what transpired between him and Locksley several years ago. But glad Locksley isn't going to be the play-caller.

Shocked to see Rutgers and Maryland spending so much money considering their success.

Sounds like Locksley got a new contract. Runs through 2027, plus if they win at least 7 this season it could extend it another year.

More details: It pays an AAV of $6.1M per year. He had been making $4M per before that.
