Following a blowout victory over Saint Peter's, Maryland remains home to finish off their non-conference slate against UMBC. The Retrievers currently hold a record of 9-4 (0-0 America East), and are coming off of six straight wins. Jim Ferry is in his second season as their head coach after spending four years as an assistant coach at Penn State (including one year as interim head coach). They won 18 games in 2021-22, and advanced to the America East Tournament Championship game before losing to Vermont.

 

UMBC can put up points in bunches, but they struggle mightily on the defensive end. Four players are averaging double-digit scoring, led by senior guards Colton Lawrence (15 ppg) and Jacob Boonyasith (12 ppg). Lawrence transferred in from Bentley before this season began.

It will be interesting to see if Reese plays or they let him rest and heal more to get ready for the grueling part of the Big Schedule that rests in front of them.

Agreed, Willard did a good job with the non-conference schedule this year.  

 

He really called the conference to task over the conference schedule.

 

He referenced how the Big East took care of their teams, and said the BiG did not and he thinks that in part hurts their tournament results.
