Eight days after being blown out by UCLA, Maryland will face off against Saint Peter's on Thursday night. The Peacocks were the darlings of last year's NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Elite Eight as a 15-seed. Shaheen Holloway left to become Seton Hall's head coach after Kevin Willard took over in College Park. Longtime Wagner head coach Bashir Mason is now at the helm in Jersey City, but his team has struggled so far this season.

 

Saint Peter's currently holds a record of 6-5 (1-2 MAAC), and have won their last two games against Hartford and Quinnipiac. That victory over the Bobcats has been their best so far this season, a seven point win where both teams struggled to shoot the ball. The Peacocks are extremely guard-heavy, led by senior Isaiah Dasher and sophomore Jaylen Murray. As a team they've shot 40% from the field, including 32% from beyond the arc.

 

This game, and the one next week against UMBC, represent an opportunity for Maryland to get back on track after three straight losses. Conference play gets back underway on New Year's Day with a trip to Ann Arbor.

Lets see more of Batchelor and Cornish in the next two games.  Long had 18 minutes against UCLA.  He does not look like a D1 player, especially on the offensive side.  Batchelor and Cornish have shown flashes of scoring the ball.

Cornish is an odd case. Literally didn't get any playing time last year, stuck around from the coaching change and can't get much PT this year, either.

He was hurt last year and they decided to red shirt.  I am not sure what they have but my feeling is he should get most of Long's minutes.

Julian Reese’s availability for this game is still TBD. They obviously shouldn’t need him in order to win, but giving him one or two tune-up opportunities after his recent struggles probably wouldn’t be a bad thing heading into conference play.

I think I might dress him, but not use him unless I had too.

 

Reese needs to get tougher, or he is not going to have much success in the conference games.

Agreed.  Scott and Carey take way too many 3’s where they are not set.  Stop running into 3 point shots.
