Enjoyed reading Zack's article and looking forward to his future work with BSL. I didn't really think about the impact for 2013, that's a difficult pill to swallow. I think this will help recruiting wise as potential QB's could be sold on the chance to compete and start right away.

I think the timeline for the return of this year's QB's may be overly optimistic. I would not expect any of them to be available for spring practice, which usually starts early April and would thus be only 8 months post-surgery for CJ Brown. So unless Cockerille is set to graduate early and enroll at UM next semester, it will just be the 2 transfers who will have to get them through spring. Once everyone does return, it will create quite a logjam at the position and I'd expect several transfers after next season (if not sooner). Assuming Burns returns to WR, you're still set to have 6 QBs on the roster.

-Brown
-Hills
-Rowe
-Young
-Dailey
-Cockerille

EDIT: Missed that Dailey is a just a walk-on right now, so only 5 scholarship QBs....still a lot given the NCAA limits.

Watch this video on Rowe. Makes you realize he was a good kid. Tough break for all of them.

Real Nice Piece. It makes you realize how young these kids are.
I hope father and son get better together and soon.

Great first piece Zack.

It is just a shame what happened this season. Every single one of these players lost an opportunity to prove their worth.
As for the program, they just need to be hopeful that at least one of these guys is back at full strength to start next year.

Because C.J Brown's ACL tear occurred during camp in August, he should be healthy the quickest and will be at full strength next season, but I assume they will all be okay coming into next season. It is a shame to see so many players go down, but the players have come together as one can see on twitter.

That is a good point. These are all serious injuries that tend to carry over for a year. It is really hard to believe. Maryland could have another freshman QB start next year.

I just hope we are starting real college QBs and not LBs who are used to running a Navy-like system.

I know Maryland has at least one transfer coming in.

His name is RIcardo Young from Va. Tech.

I am sure they will bring in a true freshman.

They have 4-star recruit Shawn Cockerille from Baltimore coming in next year as well. Ideally though, with all the bodies you have, you'd like to have him redshirt.

I know it's silly to talk about depth when you're out of QBs, but by next year you could be looking at a roster of CJB, Ricardo Young, Hills, Rowe and Cockerille. Would not surprise me to see one of Hills or Rowe transfer at some point.

That would be a great problem to have!

Shane Cockerille out of Gilman. I watched him last week play against Calvert Hall, and they did nothing but run the ball. He is a very good athlete but they basically ran student body right and left following Henry Poggi who is technically a TE on Offense but they put him in motion and had him steam roll the smaller Calvert Hall Players. Shane based on the one game I watched looks more like a running QB then a throwing QB.

I think we might be a year away from having a Hillis or Rowe transfer. I think they will both miss spring practice and most if not all of fall practice so it seems to make sense to have them do their rehabs at Maryland.

Shawn/Shane - shame thing. :)

I think the general consensus is that he is a good athlete who has the ability to throw the ball but is a bit raw mechanically. But supposed to be a pretty high IQ guy. Basically, I think he'll be a perfect fit for what MD is trying to do, but ideally he redshirts next season and learns the system, then backs up the others for another year or two.

But obviousy all of that is putting the cart before the horse.

I think you are right. I look forward to seeing him again in the playoffs again next week.
