It would be so awesome being a fly on the wall with dude as GM. He works a solid smaller deal that should benefit the team and then he ruins it and gets hung up on trying tooutsmart himself and haggle for more

Says the guy who claimed we were going to see a big addition in the next week.....a month ago.....lol

The funnier thing would be if you were the other GM on the phone making the deal.

Id have him blocked. Dont care what he was offering. Kind of like how Rizzo and Elias are required to have each other blocked

Lol. The day I claim to have any inside knowledge or sources is the day you can call me out for making a prediction on a fan message board about a signing.

I mean if you want your fill of negativity and predictions of doing nothing and making garbage signings you have a smorgasbord of options to choose from around here.

Sounds good.  I have a fly swatter.

Now that is funny, which we need more of.

Fine. Now lets get back to discussing potential players that can actually help this team be better in 2023...lol

I could pick several posts to comment off of, I'll pick Steve's.

I don't think we should underestimate the importance of this role.

If we're talking backup catchers for the specific Orioles situation....I think McCann is literally the best we can do.  I commented on Tucker Barnhart too, who was the best (imo) FA option.  There's a series of things you want to be right about this and McCann checks all of the boxes.

It's possible I'm wrong about his offense, but NY isn't for everyone.  He signs a big contract to be the #1 catcher in NY, deals with some injuries, etc and things just don't look as good as they should or certainly he hoped.

Now he's in a super media friendly environment, he's got an important role, the opportunity to catch 60 games a year and have an impact on growth of a potential HoF player.  You get to mash LHed pitching and have an impact on a couple of outcomes beyond your own paycheck.  Settle in. (Embrace, not complacency)

...and repeating something I said earlier...I think this works out great for both the Mets and Orioles.  Adding Narvaez is a good move for Mets for the same reasons that McCann is a good move for the Orioles.  All 4 players should benefit from the alignment of their roles.

I’m trying to find the downside of this deal. McCann represents exactly what the O’s need in a BUC.

Agreed, unless we gave up something of value(which we didn't), this is a good deal.  McCann was injured much of last year, (hamate injury), so I think it is reasonable to assume we get some production at the plate and I think his defense will be good.

Yep. He was viewed as a legit middle-of-the-road starting catcher option (with upside) only a couple years ago, too. I like dude's idea of having him start against LHSP, and Rutschman either DH or rest accordingly.

As Casey Stengel once said, "If you don't have a catcher you're going to have a lot of passed balls."
