This will be a tougher test than Michigan State, but is still a game that the Terps should win at home.

ESPN's Match-up Predictor gives MD a 67.9% chance of winning.
It's another game MD needs to win. Get over .500 in conference play, prior to the division game the following week at Indiana.
Attendance yesterday was 30,559. More or less vs. Purdue?

From what I saw, it was maybe 20,000 yesterday so that number is definitely inflated. It’ll be on the colder side this weekend but no rain in the forecast. I’ll be there, hopefully a bigger crowd for Family Weekend.Attendance yesterday was 30,559. More or less vs. Purdue?

I really want to take each game week to week... but there is a real opportunity for MD to build some momentum here.
Oct. 8: Purdue
Oct. 15: @ Indiana
Oct. 22: Northwestern
Nov. 5: @ Wisconsin
If you can win these next two weeks, you are 6-1 overall, 3-1 in league play (and 2-1 in the division).
If that happens, hopefully they have a big crowd vs. NW for Homecoming.
Remember NW murdered MD in 2020. Would like to flip that script.
And Wisconsin has gone 3-0 vs MD since MD joined the conference. Only 1 game competitive. Wisconsin's lines being too much for MD previously. Going to Camp Randall and getting the W (even if Wisconsin is 'down') would be a big statement.
Starts with Purdue, and making sure you defend your homefield first.

It looked like a lot of green in the stands yesterday. Not sure Purdue travels that well, so might be less. Hard to say how much success they'd have to have before the bandwagon starts filling up....I think a lot of people feel like this team has burned them in the past when they've made an emotional investment and come out to support them.

CBS has MD vs. Arkansas in the Music City Bowl.
247 has MD vs. Pittsburgh in the Mayo Bowl.
SI has MD vs. Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl.

That would be their first New Year's bowl since the Gator Bowl after the 2003 season.

Saw 247 had a Big Ten Power Rankings out....
They had MD 4th, and Purdue 5th.

This is a very even matchup, and it'll be the toughest opponent Maryland faces all month. It's a game you obviously expect to win at home, though.

LB Ruben Hyppolite II has been practicing this week, seems like a good chance he’s ready to get back on the field for this game.
Hyppolite II is officially a gametime decision, according to Mike Locksley.
Locksley also said that Dontay Demus, Jr. is "probably not" playing at 100% right now, but that he's improving every game.

The Terps winning this game feels like a big deal to me. Besides, getting them to 5-1, it would set up Maryland as one of the better tier 2 Big 10 schools.

Aside from Michigan, Purdue is easily the best defense the Terps will have played so far. They're pretty stingy as far as yards allowed on the ground - 102 per game, 2.95 per carry - both Top 25 in the country. Passing-wise they don't give up a lot of yardage either (214 per game), and they're pretty opportunistic - 7 INTs, 2 of them returned for TDs. However, there is the potential for a lot of "hidden yards" in the passing game, as the Boilermakers have been very penalty-prone in the secondary. If they draw an officiating crew that calls things tight, that could be a big plus for the Terps. (of course that presumably goes both ways)

I feel like the Terps can move the ball and score against good defenses, if they do not shoot themselves in the foot. JMO, but winning the game would be a really good sign for the program.
