Mark Turgeon would have a nervous breakdown if he saw that OOC schedule.

I love it. UCLA and TENN highly Ranked. SLU and Miami could be bottom of the top 25. Good tests.

I like it.It IMO is okay to lose a few of these if it helps you get better,

Maybe an unpopular opinion but this is a harder OOC schedule than I think Willard needs to be scheduling. With the UCLA game we didn't really need the Tennessee game. I'm not mad or anything but this kind of thing can backfire.

Terps selling a ticket for every home game guaranteed for $209. Seat is prolly crappy and you don’t know where you’re sitting until a day before the game but not a bad deal.

I will say. Not really a bad seat in xfinity. Good sight lines.

I remember when the only way you could get basketball tickets was to either buy them for a premium on the secondary market or move quickly when they put unclaimed student tickets on sale for one of the lame opponents they played over the holiday break.

I love getting out to Xfinity, it’s a great experience.

I like the strong OOC schedule, hallas. I understand your point, but I’m fine taking the lumps this year and like the statement Willard is making that these are the teams Maryland expects to compete with moving forward. They may not beat UCLA or Tennessee this year, but set the bar, don’t shy away from what the goal is, don’t be afraid. We’ve had enough of fear driven coaching. I’m looking forward to the challenge. Maybe they’ll steal one.

I haven't been to xfinity since I left the baltimore/washington area 17 years ago, has it aged well?  My mom moved to LA with me recently so it seems unlikely that I'll have an opportunity to come out there again sadly.

I can understand wanting to play with the big boys and not backing down.  I love that he scheduled UCLA.  I think either UCLA or Tennessee is about 10x better OOC scheduling than Turgeon did in 10 years.  And both games are at the end of the OOC schedule so we should have our tune-ups out of the way.

Next year I might just show up to the away side of the UCLA/Maryland home-and-home.

Figured I'd try and divide the schedule into five tiers of importance, anything I'm underrating or overrating here?

What are you defining as 'importance'?

Few thoughts regardless....  home conference games are more important than a neutral court game in December (even when factoring in the chances of obtaining a neutral court scalp imo).

Coppin State can be 1 star if you are saying importance is chances of losing... but it's also 'important' that you don't lose that. (And the other similar games.)

Coppin, UMBC and Saint Peters are on a higher tier because they're notable mid-majors in some way (Cinderellas and also Juan Dixon's current employer)

Coppin and UMBC are notable because they are local... but neither of them are mid-majors.  MEAC is one of the 3 weakest conferences annually, and the American East is typically mid to late 20s in conference rank.

Agreed that the MAAC is a mid-major... but St. Peter's KenPom is 200+ just like Niagara.  Guess is there is enough of a separation in their KenPom's 208 vs. 226 to tier them differently.

Western Carolina is 282, and Binghamton is 253.

UMBC 266, Coppin 315.

I think Jordan means "interest" moreso than "importance". I like the groupings.

Hoping to get to a game this year. Maybe get my son to his first one.

That's what I thought, grouped by "interesting" more than importance. Except I didn't get why Rutgers was top tier and not Ohio State, or having Iowa with the dregs of the Big 10 games.

I think I was going for a combo of interesting to fans + important to the team, I'd consider @ Rutgers important to the team because that's been an incredibly hard place to win at since 2019-20 when Rutgers started playing like a tournament team

Rutgers beat four ranked teams last year, including then #1 Purdue and beat four ranked teams in 2019-20 which included the top ten Maryland team. I think casual fans are probably not circling Rutgers on the calendar, but it'd also be what I'd consider a very good win for them.
