You're obviously better with numbers than me, but going by the eye test, it seems like Watkins and Voth have done very well the first time through the order. That strikes me as valuable out of the BP. I had higher hopes for Hall - and have not given up on him - but his performance vs both those guys is lesser, yet you see him as a better option. I also believe that Kremer and Bradish are more than serviceable.
Edit. I think we agree there should be some good problems choosing SP and BP pieces next spring.
Voth and Watkin's numbers aren't great but its more about watching them and seeing the stuff and location. I just don't think they're guys that will have sustained success. Maybe they can, good relief pitchers come from anywhere and mediocre SP is a good path to that even if they onyl reached that mediocre level for a portion of this season. I think they could be ok, but I'm looking to add one more really reliable arm to the back of the pen, keep Akin as the longman, the three guys we already trust, and then some combo of Wells, Hall, Krehbiel, Baker, etc to fill out a pretty impressive bullpen.
Hall I think has a much better chance of being a good SP than Watkins or Voth, not necessarily at the outset of 2023. The stuff is simply vastly superior. He currently is incredibly inconsistent and erratic, both big problems. But he hasn't pitched a lot, so he needs more time before I'll be convinced he won't be able to find those things. I'd be ok with Hall returning to AAA rotation for most of next season, but I'd also call him up if I think he can help either the pen or the rotation and we are in a race..
