After two straight wins to open the season against Buffalo and Charlotte, Maryland returns home to finish their non-conference slate with a primetime matchup against SMU. The Mustangs are currently 2-0, with blowout victories over North Texas and Lamar. Rhett Lashlee is in his first year as their head coach after spending the previous two seasons as Miami (FL)'s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He takes over for Sonny Dykes, who left to become the head coach at TCU.

SMU is led by their passing offense, which is quarterbacked by former Oklahoma signal-caller Tanner Mordecai. He finished last season with over 3,600 passing yards and 39 touchdowns, and has already thrown for nearly 650 yards and 7 scores in 2022. Their defense wasn't much to write home about last year, so this may very well turn into a primetime shootout on Saturday night.

Going to be very tough. Will MD be home dogs? Or am I just overly scared due to that SMU offense?

I might grab a ticket.

If their passing game is that good we really need Tarheeb Still back. The only thing I saw about it was that he suffered a freak hand injury in the locker room.

Don't think Maryland will be home underdogs, but I'd assume they'll only be favored by a couple points (if any). Both teams have electric passing offenses, and haven't shown much defensively. O/U ought to be crazy high.

Maryland opens the week favored by 2 points. Haven’t seen an O/U yet.

It's a game MD needs to win.

Offense needs to perform at home.  Keep spreading the ball around, keep establishing the run, don't settle for 3, avoid turnovers.

Defensively, bend don't break.  Get off the field on 3rd down. Tighten up in the RZ, and see if you can force a couple of turnovers.

Be interesting to see what the crowd looks like.

I think it’ll ultimately hinge on Maryland’s defense. They’re the more talented unit, but haven’t played up to their potential so far this year. If they do, this is an SMU team they should be able to slow down. If they don’t, this turns into a “last team with the ball wins” shootout.

If they’re unable to get Tarheeb Still back for this game, the likelihood of the latter increases exponentially.

The schedule stiffens from here, but it is time for the Terps to start showing they can compete with better teams.

For $3 and the price of a Metro card there’s no excuse to miss this fireworks show.

I’ll be there. Metro is a crap option though for College Park IMO. Park at Looney’s, pre-game, then walk over to Maryland Stadium. Easy as it gets.

ESPN's Matchup Predictor gives MD as 67.4% chance of winning.

It will be easier once the purple line is open IMO

Tarheeb Still is absent from this week’s depth chart, so it doesn’t seem like he’ll be playing. Big loss for the Terps.

Tarheeb Still is absent from this week’s depth chart, so it doesn’t seem like he’ll be playing. Big loss for the Terps.

Locksley said Still had surgery to repair a tendon in his finger, but he could be available for the Michigan game.

Corey Coley, Jr. has returned to practice after missing the first two games, and getting him back for this game would be big.
