Im not trying to say he didnt undersell his teams chances. He did. A lot of people did. But thats not the only part of the equation. Its what you, the model, whatever thinks its going to take to get in. 86 wins is a huge difference vs 90 wins

He’s the GM, that’s inexcusable. Especially after so many awful years. Just inexcusable. We would’ve been just as set up for a nice run moving forward by not making the deals and using more urgency to get the helpful pieces up here.

Mullins has played 127 of 131 games. He has 551 PAs.

I tried to say that yesterday.  We have a poster who said platoon. He is/was wrong.  Mullins is not part of a platoon.  I am not sure what anyone is arguing about.

Even when the Lopez trade was announced I posted that another move was coming for a starting pitcher. Never did I think he was going to leave this team hanging like he did. He just seems to be pretty stubborn in his decion making once he has a plan. He came into this season to sell off major league assets and continue to beef up the farm system. This team has forced him to deviate from that and he has struggled to do so.

Vavra, Stowers , Hall and Gunnar are all here now, I give him credit for that. I’m not sure that was in the plan until this team showed they had staying power even after he decided this year wasn’t worth it. So I give him credit for that. Particularly Hall transitioning to BP, and Gunnar who I wouldn’t have been mad at going after a 7th year. So I don’t want to bury the man, I’d actually like to move on. But some people want to praise every single thing, and I think it’s only fair to point out he chose not to care about this season. Just a fact. He’s still the best GM we’ve had in my lifetime, by a wide margin. An incredibly wide margin. He was being way too greedy though, and should’ve bought in to this season. It was just wrong.

I think part of his equation was reaching the post-season, and a larger part was what he thought the chances of advancing multiple rounds once there were...  

With some, I think Elias is hurt more by publicly stating the odds were low vs the actual trades.   The more prudent move for Elias there was not commenting or utilizing pure GM speak.

Nah, I’m much more upset about his actions as it relates to this season, than the words. That was just fuel on the fire.

If he had stated not a probability when standing pat, but not trading from this team battling every night, that wouldn’t have bothered me. True story.

I have said this before, baseball like all sports is a competitive business. I get that the Orioles front office did not plan to compete but the Orioles players have busted their tails every game, and IMO they deserved better than having a key hitter and closer traded with no help coming in.

THAT SAID, Keep fighting guys.  Let’s do the improbable.

My other thought, and it is what should not be missed, is Elias and the Stat Pack,have improved things tremendously, both in the minors and major league team and throughout the system.  The Orioles are 70-61.  That is amazing, and everyone deserves credit.

I highly doubt the models expected 90 wins to be the playoff cutoff at that time.

As I think I've stated previously, it looked like the front office only planned to trade what they believed they could replace in-house. Otherwise, guys like Santander, Lyles, and maybe even Dillon Tate could have been moved.

 

It also would have been interesting to see what might have transpired had there still been a so-called "Waiver Trade Deadline" in place. Had that been the case, maybe the Orioles would have picked up a veteran player who would have come at a relatively low asking price. I believe that's how Joe Saunders was acquired from Arizona back in 2012. That trade took place in late August.
