Povich has pitched 12 innings and has 15 k's and 2 bbs in his two outings in his two starts since joining Aberdeen. Let's fast track him to Baltimore!

2 starts in Bowie, 1 in Norfolk, bring him up 1st or 2nd week of September?

I do think we have guys similar to Lopez in the organization. Good stuff who can be a high leverage BP arm. Or at least look like one for half a season.

Two starts in Bowie.

Target him for the doubleheader against Toronto on September 5. The Orioles can activate him for the doubleheader.

I think they want Hall to be one, and the other obvious one to me, is Tyler Wells.  They are concerned about his innings so usuing him in a high leverage role for the rest of the year seems sensible.  As a starter he would probably throw 30-35 innings, while using him in the pen he would probably throw 10-15.  He did well last year, maybe he can be Felix to Felix's lopez.

But there is nobody who you're as confident in as you were in Lopez for the rest of this season.  Not nearly so.  And if there were, you'd still be better off for the stretch run (and in the playoffs) to have Lopez AND that guy.

Povich was in A Ball.  He does not belong in Baltimore so soon.  JMO.

Confidence can go pretty quickly as a RP. Lopez had earned some trust not trying to say he was a pumpkin but I think we all realize he wasn't as dominant as his numbers said either.

It would a bit DL Hallish though.

Ill also say you can initially earn confidence pretty quickly. How long did it take us to realize Bautista was a dude.

Except for those couple of days in Minnesota, he was exactly that dominant.

Hes not a sub 1.00 RP. Or a sub 2.00 RP for that matter.

Okay, but for us he was.  You have this blind trust in Elias and feel the need to defend his every move.  One of your first statements after the trade was Elias must think he is going to turn into a pumpkin, which is possible but it is also possible that Elias is not the infallible baseball genius you think he is.

If trading away starters for prospects in the middle of a playoff run just because you think you can "cover" for them was a thing we would see playoff contenders do this more often but we don't. Plain and simple, Elias made these trades because he didn't think we were legitimate playoff contenders this season.

I am always of the belief in sports that tomorrow is never guaranteed and you have to go for it when the opportunity presents itself. On paper we can be better in 2023 but there are no guarantees. This team has come together this year but might not next year regardless of talent level. Injuries, chemistry, the "it" factor are variables you can't predict. We're playing for tomorrow but it's not guaranteed.

So I mean either way...he's wrong. If the team keeps playing well, he was wrong, and if the team starts tanking, he was wrong.

Absolutely. I keep saying that this is not that complicated. He would not have made those trades if he thought we had a shot at the playoffs. He basically said so. If we stay in the race it definitely proves he got it wrong and if we falter this late in the race he'll be questioned for what more he could have done. He made a bold move in the opposite direction and now we have to live with it.

I thought he could accomplish longterm and short term goals by trading Mancini and keeping Lopez but he chose to go all in on the future and basically ignore this year's team.
