It is historically bad.
Kluber's throw was not impacted at all all by Vavra.
Your twelve year old is a sharp kid.
He has more baseball sense than that MLB ump.
And Mackus apparently! LOL! (I'm jsut teasin)

Keep that ump from making any stupid calls.
Just keep dusting the plate off blue.
Try not to screw that up either.

That's the judgemental part of it, whether or not he is interfering at all with the 1B fielding the throw. But it's kind of like calling a pass uncatchable for PI. It's has to be wildly uncatchable to not call PI, and the throw would have to be wildly unfieldable for an ump to not call interference when the runner is so clearly in the wrong area. He doesn't have to actually touch the ball or the fielder, just blocking his view is enough.Kluber's throw was not impacted at all all by Vavra.
There is no doubt that Vavra was running in the wrong place. If he's running in the lane, then there is no interference, even if the throw hits him (unless he interferes intentionally a la Alex Rodriguez).

I know the rules bro.
Horrible call. Bad judgement because if he was slightly out of the lane it didn't matter because Kluber threw that ball eight feet up the line.

It matters if the ump thinks Kluber was trying to throw around the runner. It matters if the ump thinks Choi could've maybe had a chance at catching it if he had seen it clearly and could've moved off the base sooner.
Vavra was definitely out of the lane. If he's in the lane, then this call doesn't get made. Run in the right spot and you don't give the ump a chance to make an extreme judgement.
But again, Hyde isn't shy about getting tossed if he thinks the ump has made a bad judgement call. Maybe he hated it but just didn't feel like arguing more, but until he says otherwise I'm gonna assume he knows it was the right call too.
