That's Jimmy Buss NOT Jerry Buss to clarify, Jim=Louis Angelos. I wish the Angelos tenure was a fraction of the success though that the Buss' have had. You'll notice Kupchak was the one at the news conference, not Buss. Buss has been more accessible to reporters lately, coming off the Lakers' triumphant summer, but whenever things go bad in Lakerland his is never the first voice you hear.
Straight out of the Peter Angelos ownership manual.

I know, just noting the disappearing act when things are rough is Angelos like. That's Jimmy Buss NOT Jerry Buss to clarify, Jim=Louis Angelos. I wish the Angelos tenure was a fraction of the success though that the Buss' have had.

I don't think it's that comparable, Angelos has never seeked the limelight and been out there. His inaccessibility and lack of transparency is one of my biggest gripes about him. He appeared in O's clubhouse after Game 2 and gave a short statement after Game 5. I don't think that really qualifies.I know, just noting the disappearing act when things are rough is Angelos like.

It will be interesting to see if he can get along with Kobe and mesh all that talent. The Lakers have hired D'Antoni as their next coach. It looks like the talks with Phil Jackson broke down.

The Lakers absolutely wanted D'antoni over Jackson.
They felt he was a better fit....that is amazing to me.

Not sure how true that is, now that it is being said after the fact. I think Phil may have overplayed his hand on this one.Jackson and the Lakers had never spoken about a salary, the source said, "but he knew coaches don't make what he used to make anymore." He also never intended to miss any more road games than he had in his previous stints with the Lakers.
I could be wrong on this, but I believe coaches are NOT allowed to have ownership stakes. I know players aren't -- MJ/Magic had to divest when they returned. However, Jackson had wanted more say over basketball decisions, another source said.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Jackson was also seeking an ownership stake, according to a person familiar with the situation.

End of the day, the lakers actually feel that MD is the best choice.

Why would the Lakers lie about it? There is no incentive for them too.I think it played a part, the Lakers/Phil can say whatever they want, doesn't mean it's true.
Just because it was reported, doesn't mean its true.
Both sides said Phil didn't ask for all of the reported incentives. I can see why Phil's side would lie about it but not the Lakers.

Bad hire by not taking Jackson back in my eyes. D'antoni does not utilize his bigs, so Howard will go ignored most likely. His style plays no defense, which is what Howard does best. I think this is a mistake, and I agree with you. I believe they aren't far away from hitting rock bottom.I feel like the Lakers are on their way to becoming the Celtics of the early 00's. Just give it another 3 years before they hit rock bottom.

They have the perfect mix of players for his offense.
But the lack of defense is a huge issue.
When Howard re-signs, they will be in good shape long term...players always want to go to LA.

Dwight posts up, Amare is not beginning to learn how to get better with posting up. D'antoni wants underneath the basket cleared out, which is where Dwight Howard plays. Amare can shoot a mid-range shot, Dwight can not. Big difference there.

Ehhh, Howard also likes to run.Big difference between Amare and Dwight.

He is a quick, athletic big man.
He will still post up some but could now be used more in pick and rolls and things like that.
They aren't going to being in a coach that they don't think Howard will like....they are hoping to re-sign him and have him be the piece to build around for years to come.

This is certainly not the end of the Lakers, though. They will have a max contract for Dwight to build around which quite clearly is more than the Celtics had before this current era.
