Yeah, but a lot of people think the NBA did wrong by mandating an arbitrary 65-game minimum. I mean it was really done to try and stop stars from sitting out just to rest, but it was only a matter of time before this sort of unintended consequence would arise.

 

I made the Nykesha Sales comp, but this would be a little different. She was chasing a record and actually had to score a basket on a bad leg, and the opponent had to be in on it for it to work (UConn let them have a free layup after she got hers to even it out). In this instance Luka just has to check into a game, and the Lakers could conceivably call a timeout seconds later with him having just stood there, and pull him out of the game. Might be a question of how the voters view that and whether they think he violated the spirit of the rule and therefore doesn’t deserve their vote.

Yeah, I dont know how to feel about the 65 game mandate either. So valid point the other way. If voters are aware and voting fairly then there comes a point naturally where a guy would play in too few games to earn awards. Not sure the league should be mandating it. Im sure the league would have a counter for why they implemented the rule

I also wonder if Luka would even want to do it. On one hand maybe he thinks he’d be disrespecting the game. On the other, the players union already came out and said recently that they don’t like the 65-game rule and want the league to rescind it. Maybe by doing this they think they can send the message louder.

 

I don’t know why this was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the news. Obviously the main story here is that the Lakers lost their most important player to a Grade 2 hamstring strain and it’s at least uncertain, and maybe even unlikely, he’ll be back for the start of the playoffs.

Fancy James Harden doesn't deserve a place on a an All NBA team if he can't play 65 games.

Seriously... he's had a very strong stretch since LeBron accepted 3rd banana status...and the Lakers look capable of winning one or two series.

I personally hate watching him.

99.9% sure Shams’s source is Rich Paul. So could be a leverage play to try and get more money from the Lakers.

A majority share of Lakers is reportedly being sold to current minority investor Mark Walter. The purchase values the franchise at $10B, the richest sale of a sports franchise after the Celtics recently sold for $6.1B.

And now they’ve been sold again. This time to former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for $12B.

Scratch that. Sounds like Walter is in some legal hot water and may be in need of serious cash, as it’s also being reported he’s selling his share of Chelsea.

 

Meanwhile, it’s also being reported the Buss family is planning to sell the remaining 18% of the Lakers it owns, which means Jeanie Buss would no longer be able to serve as governor.
