BTW, there were about 968,000 power outages in MD/DC after the derecho in June of 2012, and about 350,000 so far in MD/DC for Sandy.
I was expecting a lot more out your way, you know how those back roads go, I figured trees down and outages all over the place.

Was down 355 and 27 to Damascus today and I didn't see any trees down... just some light brush. No power lines out either. Honestly, I expected disaster down here too... but so far so good.

My in-laws live in Boyds, so there was some flooding back down Bucklodge, but they never lost power either out in the sticks, so successful storm for MoCo all things considered.

I don't mind overplanning, much rather be overprepared than underprepared.

This was bad but not that bad. The storm in the summer was way worse IMO.
Depends where you were it seems.
Oriole85 - I agree, better to be over prepared than overwhelmed.

I actually think the derecho helped prevent a lot of outages in this area during Sandy. That took out a lot of trees and branches that could have come down this time, allowed repairs to be made that likely strengthened the grid, and helped the local utilities organize themselves better for the next storm after the criticism of the last one.

I see both sides of this one, but ultimately I think they should cancel it (or postpone it)

Can't say I'm that surprised, these events have a way of changing when public sentiment does. Probably the right call!
