I don't understand why the seats on the left side wouldn't be available? Pretty weird.

Either way, interesting move, but not at all surprising.

Well not completely related to that but Bettman said they do plan to increase from the current hockey capacity at the Barclays Center.

As of now, Barclays Center would only hold 14,500 for hockey, but Bettman says plans are in place to increase the attendance to "15,000-plus."

Interesting. When you look at the seating chart in the link that DJ posted on post 1 of this thread, it just doesn't make sense why all those seats on the left side would be unavailable. I mean, I'm sure there's a legitimate reason, but I don't get it just at first glance. Just curious is all.

Arena was built primarily for basketball. Still it's very odd for a $1 billion arena to not be able to more easily adapt to hockey. Those seats on the left side must have obstructed views?

I know American West(now US Air) in Phoenix had a similar problem and many upper-deck seats overhung the ice or something.

Gotcha - makes sense. I do know it was built for basketball, I'm just surprised, like you said, that it isn't very adaptable to Hockey. Either way it's a huge upgrade for the Islanders.

The lower-level seats that are angled would stink because fans in those seats would have to strain their necks to see the left goal. Some might have to look over top of the person next to them to see it. The upper level seats would probably have an obstructed view of the left end of the ice, including the goal.

I wonder if this would affect the move to Brooklyn. Even if they have a verbal agreement or even some form of preliminary written one, I doubt they have signed a full lease yet.

Whether a potential sale could expedite the team's move to Brooklyn remains unclear, as does the number of suitors or level of interest in acquiring the oft-maligned franchise.

I don't see why it would change anything. There's no way a new owner wouldn't want to get out of Nassau.

A new owner might be more willing to build a replacement venue. But I think it's doubtful anyone would bother.

It will be interesting to see how ice hockey plays in Brooklyn. It seems like once Barclays is reconfigured, it's only going to seat 1,000 or so more people than the average attendance at Nassau these days, so I wouldn't imagine too many empty seats. Between the die-hard Islanders fans who are willing to travel to Brooklyn, plus the curiosity among the local hipster crowd, I would imagine they'll do okay for the first season or two no matter what. After that, it will come down to the team's performance, as it almost always does.
