I'm shocked - SHOCKED - that they haven't really been that interested in adding payroll, or winning.

This will continue indefinitely until they are out of the Angelo's family.

As far back as our days on the Sun discussion board, Peter's mortality has been a topic of periodic discussion. Like I've always said, I'm not going to wish death on him. But from this law suit, it kind of sounds like his own wife and children (or at least one child) is wishing for a speedy death, just to avoid paying taxes.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I think there's been writing all over every wall for many years now, including the new wall in left field... that they have zero intent to do anything at the major league level truly focused on winning anytime soon... until the ownership situation is resolved for the long term. And as long as Peter is still with us, the major league team will be a ghost ship...

There is obviously a non zero chance they move

It's as close to 0, as 0 can be.

MLB does not want teams moving.   They want Tampa Bay and Oakland resolved before anything else, and if teams are going to move... it's going to be them.

OPACY is still revered. O's history still revered.  And dollars and cents wise, the  MD Stadium Authority / State of Maryland has made clear they will do what's necessary to upkeep OPACY.   With that backing, MLB isn't going to say... "Yeah, sure move the team."

MLB will approve the sale... if it isn't the Angelos family, it will be a handpicked group that MLB subtly gives a nod to.

As The Sun article pointed out, Lucchino was approached in '20.    You can expect if a sale happens, he is likely involved as the voice. I also suspect we again hear Bill Miller's name.

If we want to say there is always a chance, and if there is a chance, by definition a % exists... then fine...  0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001

I am not as confident as you but I think your close.  My distrust of MLB, Manfred and John Angelos, stops me from saying 0%.

The funding package that Hogan got approved for the Orioles and the Ravens can not be ignored.  Good things are going to happen for both locations and the surrounding area.

I need to preface this post with - I don't think they're moving. But for sake of conversation, suppose John wants to move the team to Tenn. He, along with MLB will do their research and see if it's a market that will support the demands of a long baseball season. If the answer is yes, that helps MLB in multiple ways. It opens up a market for TB or OAK, and it allows the renegotiation of MASN, be it a fast track move to both teams having equal shares of the network, the Nats being allowed to get out, or having it dissolved all together.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I find it highly, highly unlikely that the Orioles would be moved. Chances seem better to me that Lou threw that narrative in the lawsuit to make headlines and further agitate his brother.

The main concern with the story is that it really confirms (not that anyone should have needed it) the overwhelming dysfunction of the organization at the top, and explains some of the motivation behind their current "rebuild" storyline being used to make excuses for ZERO interest in fielding a competent major league team. Rebuild is a tool to buy them some P.R. time...

As for major league baseball revering the Orioles history, I don't know how much faith I'd put in that specifically as some motivator for the league to ever step in and protect the franchise / fans in any way. If MLB has done zero to prevent their blatant tanking, has butted heads with Angelos more than once over the years, and hasn't tried to force anything yet... I don't have much belief that there's a lot of goodwill in league headquarters towards the history or special value of the Orioles franchise.

They're not moving the team.

There's no lack of fan base. There's a sports network. There's a jewel of a stadium. They wouldn't approve a move just because the owner felt like it.

I liked the part where Lou said John fired good people and replaced them (and surrounded himself with) yes men. That apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Jeez.

Despite all the dysfunction, I doubt the team will move out of Baltimore.

He doesn't. And if anyone else wants to speculate and discuss have at it... but I've got nothing else to say beyond it's not happening.

I remember when people thought EBW was going to whisk this team to DC.

I think it finally came out, he hadnt said anything. Probably a high level leak, or just somebody started the rumor.

It did work, and they built OPCY, and lets face it, Memorial Stadium wasnt a great place to watch a game, no parking, and run down stadium.

Now we have social media, so, so much easier to whip the fandom into whining. This way, they dont complain about the performance of the team.

As a total sidebar comment. I remember when the big escalator breakdown happened at the Yard, and people started speculating that the team may have to play a series at Memorial Stadium. Had that happened, I would have bought tix to all 3 games, just for the nostalgia of it.

I went to as many Baysox games as I could back in 1993 when they played at Memorial Stadium.  It helped that I lived a 10 minute drive away.  The Orioles had barely been gone, but still wanted to be in that stadium as much as I could.

I think the chance of the O's moving is as close to zero as you can get. Still, I'll breathe much easier when the MSA has a signed lease in their hands.

I'm really curious how Elias feels about all this. Obviously he's going to look away, and should he be asked, he'll say it's not his business and nothing more. But I wonder if he has concerns about what he will be allowed to do, when the day comes that he believes the team is ready to invest in meaningful outside acquisitions.

Peter Schmuck's article also touches on the "How the Orioles strong-arm the local media" issue that I've griped about many times, and some have sworn it's not a thing...

"...My relationship with him was largely positive, but when I focused on the failings of the team and its ownership, I not only invoked the wrath of the father but also occasionally got an earful from the younger son... Louis was passionate about his father’s contributions to the city of Baltimore, and I got the full measure of it when I was included in the delegation that traveled to Cuba... During dinner one night in Havana, he spent a big chunk of the evening lecturing me on the unfair treatment his father regularly got from me and my media colleagues..."

The former flagship has always and will always deny it, because to admit it would basically be admitting to lack of journalistic integrity, but the Orioles under Angelos have ALWAYS tried to control how they are covered, what is talked about, when it's talked about, what is ignored, what is focused on, etc.  And not in the standard "Everybody wants good P.R. of course!" way, but in the what I've always called the "Baghdad Bob" school of public image.  THAT is comical, and all those who have bowed to it and been assimilated have done nothing but exacerbate the problems with the monster.
