I assume they're not projecting him to be a one inning reliever but a starting pitcher. Its going to take awhile before they feel confident that he can go five innings at least.

In AAA or the Majors he is going to be used for 3 inning outings in 22.

If he has those outings as a piggyback this year he can be better positioned for more next year.

Im not saying it's the most likely outcome, but non-zero chance to ruin him if you call him up now before he's capable of getting AAA guys out. Let him have some AAA success. He hasn't had much AA success. He basically has zero experience.

Just philosophically disagree with the notion that it is plausible to ruin a guy by advancement.

It's a game built around failure. Have to learn how to handle adversity.

If he comes up and struggles; that wouldn't matter much to me. I'd just want to see how he progresses month to month, and would appreciate him getting that ML experience.

If a lack of immediate success caused him to shut down mentally, it wouldn't be the early promotion that broke him.

Again my opinion. Understand the opposing pov.

Also, with his injury history, I'm sure that alone is making the decision to bring him along slowly even more prudent. Its not only getting AAA hitters out consistently but will his arm hold up in the process?

It would be the same workload.

His arm doesn't know if the pitches are being made at AAA or the Majors.
