Obviously this show deserves its own thread.

I’m 3 episodes in. As far as non-fiction limited series go, this up there with Chernobyl IMO. Excellent storytelling with great acting and direction. Obviously a great sense of location.

It’s so good I almost wish it took place in a different city. But that is our blessing and curse. Baltimore makes for great crime dramas.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I've always liked him. Great character actor. But can also carry a show or film.

Wayne Jenkins was the most fearless dude I've ever met. Charismatic and a thug, but the guy never backed down from anyone.

I know they had to tell the story of his evolution into a bad cop, but he was always a criminal and was NEVER timid. First conversation I had with the guy in 9th grade, he told me that if I ever get into a fight to keep my chin down and punch for the throat.

I remember I came back for a wedding sometime around 2006 and a group of my HS friends and I ran into him and his cop cohort out at a bar. He was buying everyone drinks and was happy for me that I had made E-6 already. I remember all of us saying that there was no way he could exist on that side of the law.

Feel like there is a lot to tie up with only one episode left.

A tad behind. Just watched episode 4 last night, damn intense episode. Jenkins is out of control.

As far as the riot scene went, I don't know if "well done" is the right words I am looking for , maybe accurate and believable portrayal of that event.

Feel like they tied it up perfectly. This show doesn’t waste any screen time. If it’s not directly related to the plot it’s not in there. Zero fat to be trimmed.

Just watched the last episode.  That drug war monologue from the retired cop... yeah that hit.

That whole episode hit pretty hard.

It's partially why I haven't finished watching the last 2 episodes yet

As did the speech from the civil rights lawyer in the court room.

All this devastation is a policy choice.

Very good show, but to me it's not quite as good as some other mini-series such as Watchmen, Chernobyl, or the WWII duo of Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Here's David Simon on why they had Suiter commit suicide instead of having him murdered in order to silence him, which would have been the better dramatic choice.

Quote

Working on the scripts for a six-part miniseries on Baltimore’s Gun Trace Task Force scandal, the writers inevitably arrived at the moment when Detective Suiter’s life would end. Certainly, the best narrative for our purposes – as dramatists chronicling a world of corrupt policing – would have been one in which officers involved in those corruptions decide to murder one of their own. No other version of events could deliver as dark, disturbing and provocative a verdict as to imply that in the end, those at the core of the scandal were capable of betraying a comrade to save themselves. If we serviced our miniseries as an entertainment only, we could film the legend and relish the best possible ending to our tale.

Instead, we did what dramatists are not required to do, but that which should be demanded of writers undertaking to depict a true story. We looked at everything dispassionately, carefully, and independently. We consulted all that was known and credible, talking further with critical principals in the investigation to elucidate points. Eventually, we came not to the best and most exciting conclusion for our story, but to the the most pragmatic and comprehensive truth, which is there in plain sight for anyone who still wants the truth. Sean Suiter killed himself, attempting – and indeed partially succeeding – at making his sudden end look like a line-of-duty death.
