He also claims to be a huge proponent of free speech yet has been happy to use his power to attempt to silence enemies of his. One has to wonder if he is more of a proponent of the spread of hate speech and misinformation than anything else.

I predict there will be plenty of banned accounts under Musk. They’ll be ones that belong to entities like competing automakers and their exec staffs. You don’t spend $44b without a plan to make more money back. Silencing his competitors, or forcing them to pay him to be on Twitter, seems like a pretty obvious start.

I have zero issue with Musk making every $ he can.  He has products people want, that's how it works.
I have zero issue with Musk buying Twitter if he wants.
I mean, I can dream about the philanthropic things I could imagine doing with $44B, but he can do what he wants with his fortune. It's his money.

Free speech is a right which I greatly appreciate. I don't have to agree with your pov, to respect that right either.
If he feels he needs to protect that with Twitter, okay, whatever. If it's a fun toy for him, okay, whatever.

I do think the, "Can't shout fire in a crowded theater," line is apt and something he should appreciate though.
If there is false information being spread on the platform (with the amplification abilities Twitter has), I hope he will take steps to address that.

Between your hope, and a couple bucks, that'll be good for a bottle of coke.

Jan. 6th, in many ways, is a direct result of social media misinformation - but okay, whatever, right?

Musk's fortune is in many ways dependent on Chinese manufacturing - what if they demand certain things with how he handles Twitter - that's how money works, China can flex how they want - okay, whatever?

This is an existential threat. And just because this is the way the world does work today, doesn't mean it's how it has to.

Your post is basically the point behind "Don't Look Up".

Speaking of that, Musk, and technology...

There's a decent chance Musk, with government permission and subsidies, will become a trillionaire due to harvesting valuable materials from space.

I'm aware of what Jan. 6th is a result of.

Twitter's an independent company.   You decided you didn't want to be the platform.  I would love to be off of it.  Maybe I will if I feel he does things which further exacerbate the amplification of false information.

But I'm not going to get worked up about what could happen before it does.
That isn't to say you / others are wrong for having some natural concerns.

Agree with Mike that the consolidation of media is an issue and sure... that's an analogy for a coming meteor, sure.

But I don't hate him or any rich person because they are rich. God bless them.  I don't adore them because they are rich either.

I respect those that look for ways to give back, and more to the point reach back and pull others up with them.

Some problems need to be forecasted and resolved before it's too late. This is one of them. Climate change is another.

This could all be for nought anyway.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Does this mean Jeff Bezos is the world's richest man again?

Just a temp hiccup, the market is very volatile right now.

Any perceived issue anywhere, causes the dow to drop 100 points in the blink of an eye.

Like many of Musk’s pie-in-the-sky musings, it’s looking more like this will end up much ado over nothing. But he at least owned the news cycle for a few days, so I imagine that’s worth the $1B he’ll be out (to him).

So remember when the whole OH/BSL blowup happened and Tony started banning people left and right, and for a while had a rule where he'd ban you if you posted something negative about OH on social media or on another message board?  For some reason, I've been thinking about that recently.
