Well, THAT was interesting.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Definitely an ugly series of events. Rock makes a classless joke, Will Smith responded with a classless act. Now this will be something that follows them around for the remainder of their respective careers.

Chris Rock deserved it. But Will shouldn't have done it.

This is pretty straightforward to me. I don't think either will be hurt by this at all (financially, lol).

Comedians have made these jokes forever. It’s what they do. I view Will Smith a little differently today. But just a little, I can respect him standing up for his women, but not like that.

From where I sit, it would appear Will Smith doesn't play the roll of cuckold all that well. Enlightened, open relationship my @rse.

I agree, it's what comedians do.

It wasn't even all that funny of a joke.

G.I. Jane was made 20 years ago.

Smith was out of line IMO.

There's other ways to protect your woman than putting your hands on someone.

On the other hand, it was probably the most entertaining segment of the show.

I feel bad for Schumer and Sykes who were killing it, I felt. They were cracking me up last night. But now all anyone will remember will be this.

I must admit, I didn't watch it.

( I'm not big on the awards shows.)

I'll take your word that those ladies were doing a good job.

It is a shame that this ceremony will always be remembered for the altercation.

"Rather than being escorted from the building, he took his seat again on the front row and was seen laughing and cheering for the rest of the event. There was no update for viewers on how poor Chris was faring." But "a famous actor striking someone and his peers being seen immediately excusing it will, for many, resonate uncomfortably with the #MeToo scandals of recent years, which revealed that powerful Hollywood men could more or less behave as they pleased."

"Will Smith hit someone on live television and got away with it, because he’s Will Smith. That’s the event for which the 2022 Oscars will be remembered."

--Billy Crystal

Couldn’t agree more with that. Hollywood loves preaching wokeness, but not practicing it themselves. More ammo for the nut jobs out there.

Yeah he should've been escorted out and maybe even denied the Oscar.

Still, Will Smith is the last celebrity I'd expect that behavior from.  He nailed that nice guy persona in the 90s so well.

I don't disagree with you.

He should have been kicked out of the venue.

That said, the academy knew he was the winner. I think that had something to do with his remaining in his seat after the incident.

I'm not surprised that Will Smith wasn't ejected. After all, his winning an Oscar after the slap pales in comparison to the Academy awarding Roman Polanski the Best Director trophy in 2002.

The funny thing was seeing Smith with laughing and smiling when Rock said the joke.  Jada is disgusted.  Camera cuts away and all of a sudden the fresh prince is pissed now. Seems like he was trying to get himself out of the doghouse with Jada more than he was offended.

I actually have no problem with what Smith did. You don’t joke about peoples appearances unless you 100% know they are cool with it, as in best friends busting balls or something. I don’t think he needed to be thrown out. One hit, he made his point. If he was beating him senseless and had to be restrained, then yeah. But he was in complete control.

Jada keeps her head shaved for medical reasons, makes it more of a cheap shot. He might as well have flipped the Coda people the bird as a sign language joke while he was at it.

Rock seemed disoriented the second he started talking. Either hit the bar or the bong too much too soon. Even when he announced the winners he said “Quest Love and 3 white guys.” Yeah, haha, Oscar’s so white and all. I’m sure those “3 white guys” have names and at their crowning achievement for their careers would have liked to hear em called.

Rock was a total ass and deserved it.

Anyway. Power of the Dog seemed like the front runner, and that movie sucked. So, hooray Coda! From the clips, looking forward to watching it when I get Apple TV back.

Im assuming the cameras were picking things up in real time but the funny thing was seeing Smith with a smile on his face when Rock first said the joke. Jada is disgusted. Camera cuts away and all of a sudden the fresh prince is pissed now. Seems like he was trying to get himself out of the doghouse with Jada more than he was offended.

They edited about 30 seconds out that we didn’t see on tv

Stand up comics make fun of appearances all the time. It’s what they do. If this were in a casual conversation among friends, I’d agree with you, Randall. But Chris Rock’s job last night was to make millions of people laugh. He did his job. Even Will Smith laughed, until he didn’t.

Jada caught him laughing and that embarrassed the crap out of him. Now he has to do something.

Not the first time Rock has joked at Jada's expense.

Still, no excuse to put hands on another person because they said something.
