Benedict Arnold's don't deserve their own thread.

Oh stop. Its a business first and foremost. He gave a discount to stay in BMore once. He was adament about getting market value the second time. If he stays in BMore there is a good chance he doesn't make the HOF either

Moose saw the handwriting on the wall.  As 2035 said, he gave the Orioles the hometown discount on the first extension, but took the money on the second.  Angelos waited until the last minute and then drove to Harrisburg to try to keep Moose but it was too late.

Moose knew the team was heading for hard times, and he was right.

Moose was still pissed that King Peter chased Davey away after 2 consec ALCS teams.

Then lying about making up the contract to him, throw in the heat he took for his 1 year hometown discount, and the writing was on the wall.

I hate that people blame Mussina for leaving.

I also get that those that know him, says he is a major Prick and not a nice guy.

I hate that Mussina ended up with the MFYankees, but it is what it is.

Give credit where credit is earned.

One of the best pitchers that I have seen in person throw for the Orioles.

I can't believe anyone who has been around for the past 30 years would blame any player who didn't want to deal with Angelos's negotiation BS. Especially after the player took a team friendly deal previously.

I think it's only that he chose NYY that anyone has any issue with Mussina.

I don't have those issues, but I get the sore spot for it being the Yankees he chose.  Especially in 1998.

Imagine how bad it'd have been in '98!

O man,  I still remember watching a grainy glitchy video with my dial up connection of him putting on the pin stripes.

I refuse to believe you've ever made a post that short

I was always a Mike Mussina fan.  Having said that, I'm glad he never got a ring in NY.  I've heard the stories of him not being the easiest person to get along with.  I once met someone through work who had a son who played for the high school basketball team that Mussina coached.  That guy had very positive things to say about Mussina; said his son loved playing for him.  He's also heavily involved in Little League baseball.  So there's that.

My impression was always that he was mostly just a quiet introvert who'd rather do crosswords in the clubhouse than chum it up with reporters or play cards with the guys. I obviously don't know the man, but as that type of guy I can attest that the world often sees us as rude aholes even if that's not at all our intent.

The old place had a poster who used to be a clubhouse attendant in the mid-90s.  He had a pretty negative opinion of Mussina.  Not bad guy stuff, but rude a-hole stuff, if I remember the stories correctly.

Yep, Nuke something maybe?  I want to say he ended up moving to Israel maybe?

He definitely didn't care for him.
