As O's fans, all his accomplishments are well known. As is the fact that he was the first black manager in both leagues. Throughout all the Frank tributes and conversations, I most enjoy the personal stories, they offer a peek into the man.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Yep, that's why I enjoyed this as well.

Really good read Bob.  I was lucky enough, or sadly am old enough to have seen Frank, play. He played with a ferocity that is rarely seen in today's talk, hug and help them up sports world.  Frank showed the Orioles the difference between being a good team and a World Series Champ.

Hi everyone.  I happened to end up on Orioles.com tonight and found this great article on the one and only Frank Robinson - There Was Only One Frank Robinson.  As much as I enjoyed the article, I loved the pictures even more - they brought back some great memories.

One of my regrets as a sports fan is that I have no memory of Frank Robinson prior to the 1969 World Series. One of my great joys as a sports fan is that I have vivid memories of the dynamic duo of The Robinson Boys - Frank and Brooks- even if for only two years.  I feel so blessed to have been able to root for Frank and Brooks.  I’ll never forget the pain I felt when I heard they traded Frank to the Dodgers.  I never stopped rooting for Frank, even when he managed against the Orioles.  I’ll never be able to explain the joy I felt when he became Orioles manager.

I believe that it isn’t a good idea to idolize sports figures, but I’ll never apologize for idolizing either Frank or Brooks.  You likely noticed that I kept grouping Frank and Brooks together; well that’s how I always thought of them as a 7-year old.  1970 is the first baseball season that I remember - and what a year that was.

What memories do you have of Frank?

My favorite memories of Frank, are of him as the Orioles Manager of probably my favorite O's team... the '89 Orioles.

You always hear the stories of him as a player. Not just extremely talented, but how hard he played, and the leadership he provided.

I think the '89 O's adopted his focus, intensity, efforts.

I don't really have any formed memories of him as manager. I was aware of those teams and knew he was the manager, but don't think I was taking in anything more than that yet.

Would've loved to have seen him play.  The photo of him with the mop on his head is one of my favorite Orioles photos.  Right up there with Cal & Eddie drinking bottles of champagne.

I remember going to games in 1964 when I was 7, but don't really remember to much of what I saw.   The 1966 Orioles were where my memories started.  Frank, Brooks and Boog drove those memories.

Frank played the game as hard as any player I ever saw.  IMO, he was a top 10 player of all time.  I remember him diving in the stands at Yankee stadium, robbing Roy White of a homerun.  I remember him hitting a homerun completely out of Memorial Stadium off of Luis Tiant, but the thying I remember most was his desire to win.  His energy drove those Oriole teams.  Frank was a leader.

I have no memories of Frank the player, and few of Frank the manager.

What I always will remember though is what I read about the adjustment Frank dealt with after moving from Cincinnati to Baltimore. That adjustment was not on the field, but off it, where he could not live where he wanted because of the color of his skin even though he was one of the best baseball players in the world.
