Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba announced he will not play in the postseason and will instead focus on preparing for the NFL Draft. I believe he may be the first player to opt-out of a CFP game, though it should be noted he barely played all season due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 1 and the release said he'd be unlikely to play in the CFP anyway.

The Heisman Trophy finalists have been announced:

Stetson Bennett IV, QB, Georgia

Max Duggan, QB, TCU

CJ Stroud, QB, Ohio State

Caleb Williams, QB, USC

Bennett a bit of a surprise, but not a shocker. I lean Williams to win it.

I should probably know this but the conference title games do not count right? Regular season award?

Up to the individual voter. Some do make up their minds early. But yesterday was the deadline to submit votes.

IM curious of thoughts on betting some of these bowl games early. Know the decision on if some of these prospects not in the BCS will play hasnt been decided yet.

You can get a good line if you guess right. Especially if a QB opts out. Wish I could have jumped on Oregon State before Anthony Richardson announced he was going pro.

On the other hand, sometimes these games come down to what team wants to be there vs who doesn't really care.

SO then do we think Bryce Young will play in the Sugar Bowl and if not is their backup capable of covering 5.5. LOL

There's a tendency for regional bias. Stroud may have won out on a lot of votes that would have gone for Corum. I'm surprised Hooker didn't get invited ahead of Bennett, but maybe he got penalized for tearing his ACL the second to last game of the season.

While it doesn't happen often in the Saban era, Alabama is a team that historically doesn't show well in bowl games that don't matter. Their backup started one game this season....that was the one where they nearly lost at home to Texas A&M. I'd be all over KSU if you think Young will opt out. That, plus for KSU this will feel like a playoff game for them.

Meaningless, but it amuses me that Stetson Bennett is only 10 months younger than Lamar.

The Ringer: Can Deion Sanders Show Colorado—and Major College Football—the Power of Prime?

Won't surprise me if he has them looking like a Top 25 team by Year 3.
Part of the story with his success is going to be what happens with the Pac 12.

With the transfer portal and how players seem drawn to him, Year 3 to crack the Top 25 might be selling him short.

Caleb Williams wins the Heisman.

Depending on how you view it (if you count Reggie Bush), he's either the 7th or 8th USC player to win it. No other school has more than 7 (Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma are the others tied).

Rumors circulating that Mike Leach suffered a massive heart attack and that the prognosis is not good.

Tragically, Leach is apparently in hospice care now. Just a matter of time before he’s gone. So sad to lose one of college football’s finest far too soon.

He'd been battling pneumonia and heart failure all season. While now is probably not the appropriate time, I'm sure there will be second guessing of his decision to coach through it.

Here's a piece John Canzano, who seemed to know him as well as anyone in the media, published just a couple hours ago. Mentions his condition at the time, but much more too.
