Remarkable demolition by Georgia. What's more remarkable is that it didn't involve the use of an automobile.

CBS Sports: Georgia's dominant national championship win sends clear message to rest of sport: Don't even think about it

I have been and remain a firm proponent of expanding the CFP. Get used to more championship games like last night though, IMO. Thank God for sports books at least, lol.

It really all depends. Some years there's only one true elite team. Other years you might have two or three. We've had some great title games in the past, but many times they were preceded by total duds in the semis. Maybe Ohio State was actually the second best team in the country this year, and the CFP just got the seeding wrong.

I know some disagree with me, but I don't think CFP expansion is going to spread the elite talent around and give us more parity, but it should provide some fun matchups in the first and quarterfinal rounds. Then when we get to the last four, it'll be more of the same. But really college football has always been that way....at least now we settle it on the field instead of a bunch of sportswriters picking a champion.

Yep, the good far outweighs the bad, IMO. There will just be some total duds, more than today IMO, but not just in the championship game round. I just think there generally is a team or two above the rest, and with expansion, there will probably be a couple teams every year that don't have much of a chance. It'll be interesting to see it play out. Overall, far more pros than cons and it's a good change.

I think we see more upsets with the Playoffs.

I think when you have a talent separation, it gets really exacerbated with the layoff and additional time to prepare.
When you jump right into games, I think that will lead to greater variance.

Sometimes it feels like the opposite though. TCU had a lot of time to prepare for Michigan, they pulled out all the stops in that game, all the tricks. They won. They had a week to turn around and prepare for Georgia, they came out completely unprepared.

Yeah, all fair...   though their speed was too much for Michigan.  Lot of respect for what the Wolverines accomplished the last two years, playing as a more talented version of the Stanford teams Harbaugh had.... but these weren't overly talented Michigan teams. Just strong, well coached...  TCU's speed on the edge, and with their Front 7 was a bit much.  Then they (TCU) ran into an even faster team, which was also vastly stronger at both lines.

I guess even with the Conference championships we don't see that much variance... but you see the occasional surprise. That's what I'm thinking with the playoff...  but maybe it will be super chalky.  Either way, glad it's happening.

I think in addition to game preparation the extended time off allowed TCU to match Michigan's physicality. With just 8 days to rest before having to face Georgia they were even more physically overmatched than they already were on paper.

Someone on Twitter speculated the reason Michigan under Harbaugh has a 6-game losing streak in bowl/CFP games is because the break gives opponents the time to rest up after the regular season, and since their offense is more vanilla their smash-mouth style doesn't work as well as it does during the regular season when many of their Big Ten opponents are already somewhat beaten up.
