It’s a new season, but Nebraska still does Nebraska things. Costly turnovers, bad special teams, and another close loss.

UConn, in the first game of the Jim Mora Jr. era, jumped out to a 14-0 1st Qtr lead at Utah State (a team that won 11 games last season). Then they remembered in which box they packed their Edsall Stink, cracked it open, and gave up 24 unanswered points before halftime.

In a game they started out quick and could’ve established control. Just a terrible start for them, but a good, close game for the opener. I enjoyed it.

Its good to see that with how messed up things are around the world right now that there is one consistent thing you can still count on. UCON football sucks.....LOL

What will be overlooked, thanks to the turnovers and Frost's bone-headed decision to onside kick, is how awful Nebraska's defense was. NW was 125th in scoring last season. In 10 games against P5 teams they only scored more than 14 points twice. But today they made the Wildcats look competent. And that 9-play 53-yard NW drive late, when Nebraska knew they would run it on every play, was terrible.

Despite an awful 2nd Qtr UConn isn't going away quietly. Down just 24-17 early 4th.
Utah State has given up 238 yards rushing in 3 Qtrs. They play Alabama next week. Wonder how that will go? [as I furiously look up the DraftKings O/U on Alabama rushing yards]

Per Nebraska is the first team in the history of major college football to lose 7 straight games with all 7 losses coming by a single digit margin.
I've felt this way for a while, but it's time for everyone else to stop talking about this being a fluke and assuming the football gods will tilt things back to the mean for Nebraska. It's "culture change" time in Lincoln.

True. But is it even salvageable?
The season? Nope. The change had to come last year. The program? Sure, if/when they get the right coach in there.

I mean moving forward. I know they still have a following and get viewers, but it’s been a minute. Don’t know about their NIL stuff, but I’d imagine that kind of thing could be a big advantage at a place like Nebraska, where college football is still the only show, even if they have been irrelevant for a while now.
No reason at all they shouldn't be in the mix for the B1G West title every year (assuming they keep that divisional alignment going forward). Wisconsin and Iowa don't have any inherent advantage over Nebraska, just better coaching. Challenging OSU or Michigan is another matter. If you mean getting back to that sort of level, I'm not sure how realistic that is.

Not a bad showing for UConn. Despite a disastrous 2nd Qtr they were in it up to the end, on the road against what should be a good G5 team. Something to build on. They'll need to get more production from their passing game though if they're going to win more than 1-2 games.

Keep an eye on that PSU/Purdue game Thursday (8pm on Fox).
I'm really curious to see that FSU/LSU game. Feel like neither has a high ceiling this year, but not confident in picking a winner there. LSU is -3, much of which is probably because it's essentially a home game for them.

I'd give you my take...but it might be on the pool card

Lots of CFB news dropping. First, there could be an important vote on CFP expansion this Friday. Second, the NCAA gave a thumbs up to transfer portal windows, and a thumbs down to unlimited transfers (beyond the 1-time you can transfer without losing eligibility).
