There are now just two potential spots for teams that went 5-7. One of those could go away Friday night when a game between Akron and Buffalo (5-6) that was postponed due to the recent snowstorm is made up. If Buffalo wins, then the 5-win spots for bowl bids will be NMSU and Rice. If Buffalo loses it will be NMSU, Rice and UNLV.

Auburn would have been the next one up on the APR list if the NCAA declined New Mexico State's waiver request, due to their game against San Jose State being cancelled because a SJSU player died earlier that week.

Do away with all the bowl games except for those associated with the playoffs. Its just plain dumb that we have gotten to where we are "rewarding" schools with a bowl game that have 50-50 seasons (or worse).

OR have all the bowl games you want with a simple stipulation. The bowl must pay 100% for the invited teams expenses. Teams should not be losing money to go play a meaningless game so ESPN has some programming.

That's fair enough, but I think nowadays a lot of teams get reimbursed by the conference for any shortfall due to travel. Most of it probably comes in the form of the payouts the conference gets for the bigger games and making sure the teams in the smaller games are covered before distributing the rest equally to everyone. Or at least that's the way it ought to be.

Frankly, I don't care if there are a ton of bowl games. The idea that it should only be a reward for teams that win X number of games or whatever is long gone. Like you say, most of them are just filler programming for ESPN. We can choose to watch them or not. No big deal.

BSL: College Football 2022 - Championship Week Preview

I know there isn't as much drama around this year's conference championship games as we usually have, but a couple of them are pretty important. Also, I discuss the big playoff expansion news and as a fun exercise, play "what if" assuming it were in effect this season. Big difference. Look forward to see how it plays out beginning in 2024.

Buffalo gets a late TD and pulls out a win to go 6-6 and bowl eligibility. Hearts are broken in Las Vegas.

USC has pulled a choke of epic proportions. They will miss the playoff and Caleb Williams might as well get on a plane to Columbus after the game and hand-deliver the Heisman to CJ Stroud.

The Pac-12 should really think about whether or not they want Utah in the conference going forward. The Utes will never be good enough to win anything of consequence, but there are few teams better than they are at spoiling everyone else's chances.

Ohio State back

I've long thought OSU is the one team with better than a puncher's chance of taking down Georgia. Still think that. Now they will meet in the semifinal.

Big stop for TCU.  Under 4 minutes left in the half.

TCU certainly doesn’t look like a CFP-worthy team today.

What a drive for Duggan.  Now a chance to tie.

That might have won him the Heisman, And it definitely should have clinched TCU a playoff berth, no matter what happens in OT.

Why don't you run a QB sneak when you only need inches?

Well, so much for Alabama missing the playoff for the second time ever.

If there is justice in the world, TCU still gets in.
