Reese struggled. He’s in a slump. Martinez missed his 3 shots and was poor defensively. Green with 4 and 8 rebounds, had some nice moments. Ayala added 11 rebounds for the double double.

Reese is getting pushed around.  He seems to be playing scared.

Maryland wins 94-87.

No long scoring droughts down the stretch, just really bad decisions and sloppiness.

Happy for them to pull this out and get their first conference win. With Rutgers next up at home, followed by Penn State, this is their opportunity to climb back into it a little bit. Big difference between 1-4 and 0-5. Although, I think ultimately they’re done. I just want something to root for.

Ayala with 26
Fatts with 22
Hart with 18
Scott with 17 but a terrible sequence late which fouled him out and ultimately brought the game to OT in the first place
Wahab still just nothing, Nance abused him all night, he’s really bad.

Scott, who may be one of the smartest guys on the team did something very stupid.  I think he will bounce back.  He was playing fairly well until the dumb foul.

I haven't been able to see any MD games in a while (I live with cord cutters right now). So I'm not sure how the teams looks as far as chemistry goes.

You know how Kentucky basically starts five new people every year because their five freshman all get drafted every year? They are talented, but vulnerable because they lack chemistry.

Is it possible with the transfer portal, and with a lot of guys on this team, and past Turgeon teams being transfers, that they lack chemistry. But its a double whammy because they also aren't talented because they aren't former top 100 type prospects that are coming in here?

It'll take time, but I hope with the next coach they build a team organically, and don't go out and get a bunch of filler. I'd like in three or four years for the starting five to have played together for three or four years. Not a transfer portal mash up of juniors and seniors. Pretty sure Gary's Natl' Champs team had zero McDonalds All-Americans on it as well. Don't have to have elite recruiting classes. Smart basketball players with a team mentality that can push the pace without turning it over because the players are in sync would be nice to watch.

Ideally, you can build the core of your roster through 2-3 year high upside players, and augment that core through the transfer portal and finding upper class-man role players.

I think Calipari is underrated as a coach and developer of players. He seems to be able to get his kids ready to play almost every year and be a top-20 team, despite the fact that his roster is full of one-and-dones.
