QB back. WR's strong.  Oline back.  RB's should be solid.  Feel good about the offense.

No doubt. The departures that hurt have pretty much been entirely on defense.

I must have missed this in the shuffle, but RB Challen Faamatau is expected to return next season. He should be in line for significant carries along with Colby McDonald.

Matt Zenitz is reporting Duke is looking to poach WR coach Zohn Burden.

Update: Ahmed Ghafir reports it’s a done deal.

Second year in a row Maryland’s lost its wide receivers coach to the ACC in a lateral move. If this is truly just about money, it’s sad that the athletic department is either unable or unwilling to invest in Locksley’s assistants at a standard Power 5 level.

Sounds like Burden's move was simply about money. Duke will be paying him more.

Maryland may elect to promote from within since they've had Derek Kief on the staff as a graduate assistant for the last two years.

Hey, we are in the top half of the 130.  Does that make the Terps Elite?  No, how about a Blue Blood?

DB Nick Cross has also declared for the NFL Draft, so Maryland will be forced to replace both of their starting safeties from last season.

Serious question, but is that really a big deal? The Terps defense including the secondary usually looks like a sieve (with really big holes) whenever I'm watching.

Serious question, but is that really a big deal? The Terps defense including the secondary usually looks like a sieve (with really big holes) whenever I'm watching.

Their secondary was actually one of the best in the Big Ten two years ago, and they finished with a Top 25 pass defense. There was obviously a lot of regression last year, but I place most of that blame on the cornerbacks. Losing Deonte Banks to a season-ending injury in Week One didn't help, and Tarheeb Still and Jakorian Bennett were much more inconsistent than they were in 2020.

The hope was that Nick Cross would've been able to step into a full-time free safety role last year, but he still showed some issues in coverage. Jordan Mosley is basically a linebacker, so he played in the box most of the time. Towards the end of the year, they started rotating in some of the younger, smaller safeties to play the deep zones. They're hoping that some of those guys (particularly Dante Trader) will be ready for the full-time starting role that awaits them in 2021.

So long story short, losing two veterans on the back end is obviously significant. But it's likely not something to be too concerned about, especially considering the talent returning at cornerback (Still, Bennett, Banks, and Coley).

Torrey Smith tweeted that Locksley reached out to him about becoming Maryland’s wide receivers coach, but he turned him down due to his obligations with his Leadership Academy in Baltimore and with his family.

I have no idea how Torrey would do as a coach but hard to think of a better role model for young, impressionable football players to be around.  Good idea by Locks.  Maybe sometime down the road it can work out.

Torrey has always been a class act, and would be a great addition to the Maryland staff, and his NFL success might help in recruiting, but I think Torrey is trying to do bigger things.

I'd like to hear that Torrey does a clinic or two with Ravens WRs this summer on how to "sell" a pass interference call. :)

It's been a while but I don't remember Torrey selling too hard to get those calls.  I have no idea what he used to do that forced DBs to interfere with him so often, but they were usually pretty legit calls.  Whatever it was, it was absolutely a consistently repeatable skill, at least for when he was here with Joe.

Now Torrey’s on Twitter trying to get Shawne Merriman, Vernon Davis, Stefon Diggs, and DJ Moore to become volunteer coaches with him for a day during spring practice.

He also says he plans to be around the program a lot more, and has glowing things to say about how Locksley is building things.

DB Dante Trader, who was expected to play both football and lacrosse at Maryland, has yet to practice for John Tillman’s squad with their season set to begin in a few weeks. He’s in line to serve as one of the football team’s starting safeties in 2022 and may be fully shifting his focus to the gridiron, but Tillman has apparently left a spot open for him should he change his mind.

I liked his game a lot.  Just seemed like a worker type who did his job and made the occasional big play.  Winning teams need guys like Rose.

Chris Low is reporting Kevin Steele is going to be hired as the Terps new DC. If true, that's a pretty major move, and upgrade IMO. Steele has been a DC at Alabama, LSU and most recently Auburn.

Pete Thamel also reports LB coach Brawley Evans will not be retained, though current DC Brian Stewart will remain on staff as a defensive assistant.
