After five straight home games to begin their season, Maryland will travel to The Bahamas for a two-game stint as part of the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship. Their first matchup comes on Thanksgiving night against Richmond, who currently holds a 3-2 (0-0 A-10) record. The Spiders have wins over Georgia State, Hofstra, and North Carolina Central, and losses to Drake and Utah State. Chris Mooney is in his 17th season as their head coach, and they finished the 2020-21 season with a 14-9 (6-5) record and a trip to the NIT where they lost in the quarterfinals to Mississippi State.
Richmond poses the biggest challenge to the Terps so far, particularly on offense. Led by junior forward Tyler Burton and senior center Grant Golden, they're shooting 46% from the field so far including 40% from beyond the arc. They also boast a 17:10 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Maryland will face either Louisville or Mississippi State on Saturday depending on the outcomes of the first round games. KenPom currently ranks the Cardinals at #51 and the Bulldogs at #43.
