Before officially starting their season on November 9th, Maryland will host Fayetteville State for an exhibition on Friday night. The Broncos come from the state of North Carolina and compete in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (Division II). Their basketball schedule was cancelled due to COVID-19 last season, and they finished the 2019-20 season with a 24-8 (10-7) record and lost their conference championship game to Winston-Salem State.

 

You can only watch this exhibition with a subscription to the Big Ten Network+ streaming service. Access to conference-wide games starts at $14.95/month but you can purchase access to Maryland's games for $9.95/month. The Terps will play two regular season games on Big Ten Network+ (Quinnipiac and Vermont).

 

Maryland enters this game ranked #21 in the country, and #18 in KenPom.

Maryland leading 43-23 at halftime. Starters received about 10 minutes of playing time in the first half. Reese leads all scorers with 10 points. Scott and Wahab have four rebounds apiece, and Ayala leads with three assists. Hart finished 2/3 from beyond the arc.

Catching a few minutes of the radio broadcast.  First, Johnny Holliday is fantastic.  Second, Reese seems to be doing a lot of everything and getting strong praise from the broadcast crew.

Maryland wins, 89-40. They out-scored Fayetteville State by 31 points in the second half. Reese led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Wahab with 12, and Hart and Russell each with 10.

Two notable items from Turgeon’s postgame press conference: Reese is currently the backup center but could see some time at power forward, and Martinez is expected to play at least 20 minutes per game between point guard and shooting guard.
