Dagger.  The contract has turned into a nightmare as well.  Not Stanley's or the Ravens' fault, but it sucks.

Whars our realistic out on that deal?? Man do we need him to be even 70% of what he was pre injury.

This is the first year of the actual deal, so its gonna be a while before it's not really painful capwise.  He's got a fully guaranteed $9.5M salary for 2022 plus over $30M of bonus allocations still due.

After 2022 it'll be about $1M more in dead money to cut him than it would be against the cap to keep him.  Could spread that over two years though, so it's possible, but really unlikely unless he physically can't play at all.

After 2023, it's a choice between $15M salary with $24M cap hit or $13M in dead money.  So that is an obvious out point if he's not still pretty damn good.

Pretty sure he signed his extension right before the game that ended his season.

Yep, it was that week.  Great timing for him.  Can't believe Lamar is playing without a deal right now.  He'd still get paid if he got severly hurt (like Prescott) but the possibility of a career-ender exists.  Even if that's a 1-in-1000 chance, is it worth trying to squeeze out $165M in full guarantees vice $155M in full guarantees?

I think we need to let it playout through next year.  It really is a bad situation for both parties.  It sounds like Stanley worked his ass off to get back.  Maybe it was too much to soon.

There is literally no other choice here.  They pretty much have no choice but to play it out through the next TWO years.

If they cut him after 2021 this season they'd still have to pay him his full 2022 salary.  And even if they used a post June 1 designation and could split up the hit, it would be $18.5M in dead money in 2022 and another $22.6M in dead money in 2023.

Man...  what happened here?

Did he come back too quickly?

Additional surgery is horrible.

The best to him... but damn, what a horrible blow.

I'm amazed the line has stood-up as much as it has without him.

I think the severity of his original injury was underplayed by the team but it sounds like he not only broke his ankle but did extensive damage to the tendons. I would imagine there's plates and screws involved too.  Also, Stanley is over 300 lbs. which has to put tremendous stress on the joints, tendons, knees, and ankles to begin with.  Who knows, maybe the first surgery was a hack job.  It happens.  Either way, you've got feel for the guy.  He's got to be thinking that this might be it for his career.

Horrible news. Hopefully he can make a full recovery. And take extra time rehabbing into next season based on the understanding of where he was physically when he came back this year.

Seems likely the Ja'Wuan James signing will be even more important in the coming seasons than anyone realized.

Is James expected to play this year? Cap nightmare..... it's always something for us.... Ray Rice, Flacco falling flat, Pitta and his fragile hips, Stanley.

Hasn't been any update on his actual health that I've seen, but he was on the NFI list and not the IR in the preseason, which means he could in theory return.  Actually he's allowed to return as soon as immediately, since we've already played 6 games which is the minimum time before an NFI designee can return.

Apparently a torn achilles back in May of this year? A return this season seems unlikely, but not sure it'd help out LT situation much since he seems to strictly be a RT. Might mean another year of Villanueva at LT next year, though.

Obviously the OL has to be the main focus in the draft in the next couple of years.

Sucks we'll have a ton of cap money in Stanley when we'll have to pay Lamar and Hollywood pretty soon.

Hollywood has one more cheap year and then would be on a 5th year option for $13M (would go up to close to $17M if he makes a Pro Bowl) which isn't too crazy for a solid WR.  I don't think they sign him long term.  He's a guy that will get shorted since we decided to take care of Lamar, Stanley, Humphrey and now Andrews.  Totally fine with that approach, especially if Bateman, Proche, and Duvernay continue to look good.
