ESPN: What we learned in the ACC: Week 7

http://espn.go.com/b...he-acc-week-7-3

4. Maryland is leading the Atlantic Division -- for now. At 2-0 in league play, Maryland is the only ACC team to remain undefeated in league play. Coach Randy Edsall deserves credit for a turnaround after last year’s 2-10 finish. Anyone who has actually watched the Terps, though, knows this success could be short-lived. Maryland ran for minus-2 yards in the win over Virginia, and has relied on its defense to win games. So far, that plan has worked -- against a Wake Forest team that had six suspended players, and against a Virginia team that has now lost five straight. Tougher competition lies ahead, but Maryland has certainly turned things around in Year 2 under Edsall and positioned itself for a bowl game.

I think BC and GT are both very winnable games, which is just enough to get them to the 6-wins for bowl eligibility. But with the inconsistent offense (exemplified by a very poor running game) and propensity for turnovers, I don't see any other wins on the schedule. Still, any bowl game for such an inexperienced team would be invaluable. And while 6-6 would mean I lose my wager with Chris, it would be one of the best bets I ever lost. On the other hand, if they only go 5-7, which means I still lose, I'll be pissed.

I expect them to win both BC and GT, although I would've been more confident with a win against NC St. I'm hoping for 7-8 wins, which to some might be a stretch, but I think it's doable.

I think beating FSU and/or Clemson is very doubtful. UNC....eh. I'd say they're probably on par with NC St, and the Terps should have had that one, so maybe there's a shot at 7 wins. Despite my low expectations headed into the season, I'll be rather disappointed with less than 6-wins....but to get there I think they absolutely have to win these next two.

So if they go 1-1, you are basically saying they can't win another game? since they "absolutely" have to beat BC/GT.

I waiver on UNC. Since they are not eligible for postseason, and it's their last game of the season and is at home, that might be their "bowl game." So it could be tougher than it otherwise would. And no, the Terps aren't beating FSU or Clemson.

Since no one out this way picks up the ACC Network games, I was stuck with ESPN3, again. And it was crappy, again. So on one hand, I'll be happy to watch a game on real television. On the other hand, this game is gonna be ugly for the Terps. Real ugly. So guess I better be careful what I wish for.
