Five thoughts in the moment from the Ravens 33-27 OT loss in Vegas. We hoped to have answered some questions from the offseason, and instead they added more questions to the mix with a lot of head scratching decisions.

Agree with all points.

My biggest takeaways are that Murray was cut for a reason and it wasn't salary related. And Wink needs to learn how to mix coverages when teams start picking apart his man coverages. I think mixing in some zone blitz concepts with his man concepts could have thrown Carr off a little.

I actually feel like last night answered a lot of questions.

Can they replace Peters? No.

Can this defense survive the loss of arguably it's 2nd best player? No.

Can Lamar will the team to win without any weapons? No.

Is Villanueva the answer? No.

Is this an elite team, or even a good team? Didn't look like it.

NFL.com power rankings has the Ravens at 7. That seems about 7 places too high.

Your right, his salary wasnt all that high for the position.

The only thing I feel better about after last night is that Oweh was a good pick.

I mentioned it in preseason. I think that kid is going to exceed expectations. His closing speed is for real.

On the offensive line. Zietler was the lone bright spot. He actually played well in both run blocking and pass blocking. Bozeman was decent. Pretty average across the board on both. Which, if he's firing good snaps all game, I'm good with that. However, when you're two tackles combine to give up 13 hurries, 4 QB hits and 2 sacks on the night, you're not going to win many games.

On defense their were some bright spots. Campbell was his normal great self. Houston looked like he was still a great player off the edge. And Queen definitely played a really good complete game. Looks like he may have turned the corner. Westry play pretty good overall. And Oweh played really good overall, even had 4 total pressures including a sack.

In the end, the fact that Lamar set the record for being pressured on 54% of his snaps (most ever since next generation stats has tracked that.) I think he played phenomenal under constant pressure. Fun fact, in 2019, Stanley gave up 10 total pressures (hurries, sacks and QB hits) all season. Last night he gave up 9 total pressures. Definitely needs to shake a bunch of rust off. Also disgusting to see that LV sent 3 blitzes all night, and were able to dominate our line like they did.

We knew you can’t replace Peters. He’s a HOfer.

Can the defense survive? TBD. They got out coached. Won’t happen every week.

Can Lamar will the team to win isn’t the question. Can he not be stupid with the football. He made the plays that put them in position to win. Some good deep throws. Also ones that aided in costing them the game which to be fair the entire team is literally to blame for the loss.

Villanueva looks like a mistake, and they are not in the elite tier anymore.

Just saw PFF did the grades for last night. Villanueva allowed 10 pressures on 40 pass blocking assignments. 3 hits, 2 sacks. A pass blocking grade of 13.4. Run blocking grade of 73.0.

It's quite literally the worst pass blocking grade he's ever gotten by a lot, as in, never even came close to a game this bad in his life. We'll see if this was just an anomaly. Remember even JO having a horrible game against Dwight Freeney where he looked like, well, what AV looked like last night. AV is no JO, but he's never stunk up the joint either.

13.4 on a scale of 100 sounds exactly right for Villanueva last night.

It would be nice if last night was just an anomaly for Villanueva. Obviously he didn't play much in preseason but he certainly didn't look that terrible. I guess we'll find out soon enough since there's really no one else to put in, especially if Phillips is out, unless a move is made.

Couldn't agree more. It's like we either go cover 0, jail break, send the house or Dean Pees style and drop 8. Obviously, I'm being a little glib but at some point, someone is going to have to emerge as a pass rushing threat by virtue of individual effort. Particularly since we're looking a little vulnerable on the back end with the loss of Peters, we're not going to be able to send 6 or 7 all day.

I actually asked Mike if it was possible for someone to receive a negative grade.

Could it be time to give Ealy a shot? He probably can't be worse than AV.

AV will get another few starts. Hope that was just an anomaly. I wonder if edge rushers have an…edge…no pun intended…in week 1 for some reason. Lewan sucked. Orlando Brown Jr sucked. Chandler Jones had 5 sacks. Derrick Thomas set the single game record 6 sacks in a week 1 game. Are pass rushers just foaming at the mouth like rabid dogs, going 1000 mph in week 1 after 6 weeks of QBs being off limits to them? Pass blockers are going through the motions but just overpowered? Do things normalize after this week?

I was a little stunned at how bad Stanley looked last night. If Ngakoue was this player last year for us, he might still be here. Does anyone know how Stanley graded out last night?

I was looking at PFF grades and stats before the game yesterday, and I noticed dang near every team had a bad to terrible pass blocking grade for week 1. Seems as though we weren't the only ones having issues. Part of me wonders if it's because teams know who they have week 1 and just have a longer time to prepare, and scheme for them.

Knowing Gruden, I 100% believe he treated this game like it was the Superbowl. Week 1, on MNF, at home for the first time in front of fans. He gave us everything his team had. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the best game they play all season.

Unfortunately we get hit with KC in week 2, so 0-2 is probably our reality. I don't think the sky is falling. I don't think we suck all of a sudden. But I think, and hope this was a huge wake up call. They need to let Williams handle the load. They need to scheme better for the DB's to have a chance. And most of all, the line needs to wake up and realize that everyone isn't scared of them just because they're huge.

I also think with all of the injuries last minute to Edwards and Hill, our playbook was probably limited. Seemed like Murray ran a limited amount of zone run designs. I think we improve as the season rolls on.

Last night was unfortunate for sure and I'm trying to hold back on any kind of overreaction but something just felt off last night. It was the same vibe I got when we played a primetime game in Cam Cameron era. We just looked off. Considering the injuries and perhaps a hangover effect from the Edwards/Peters double whammy, it's not terribly surprising.

Is it just me or does Roman seem to lack the right feel for in-game play calling? Why did Williams practically get put on ice? Why didn't we screen at #98 to exploit his explosiveness off the line? Why keep Lamar in the pocket when it was clear we couldn't protect? This is just armchair coaching frustration I suppose.

I'll add a couple more:

Can Ty'Son Williams be relied on as a solid contributor to the running game? Yes

Does the play-calling reflect that? No (at least not after the 1st Half)
