Which is the case with most hockey teams though. It’s a tough game.
Mostly injuries. Have been missing at least one member of it all season. Some of the makeup is a question too though.

True story.
They were doing well in that first week or two of the season when they started out red hot, with Kuzy centering and Oshie and Mantha in the mix.
But missing Backstrom so long, and he's going to be a little hampered all season because of the type of recovery he had. And same with Oshie, he tends to tough out stuff but is banged up. Mantha still hasn't gotten back out there. That's half of your PP unit right there. Not even getting into the debate of who is on D.

Oshie's back now and he had a PP goal Saturday so maybe some progress going forward.
No other goals from the team didn't help though.

Mostly there. Mantha is skating and should be back any time now. Oshie just came back. I think Schultz just went out for a bit, but in hockey they really never tell you the severity so hard to say how long that is.
Aside from that I think we are back at full strength.
Then it's a matter of how the pieces fit. I don't think Lavi is great at that. Looking back on teams he's won with, they were top heavy and didn't have depth like this, so I think he's got guys in less than ideal positions, instead of just riding the big guns into the ground.

Also up 13 pts on Carolina for the last playoff spot. With only 20 to go their spot is just about secured.

Columbus, you meant. They’re 9 behind Carolina who leads the Metro, but just forced OT in Raleigh with Ovi’s 769th career goal to tie it.

Not sure I like the Sprong for Marcus Johansson trade. Trading a 25 year old for a guy 31 plus picks. Ouch. I'm glad it's Marcus though as I always liked him when he was here before.

4 years ago today was one of my favorite Caps game. Down 2 to games to 0 the Caps eked out a double OT win against CBJ and never looked back. Dang the tension in that game was intense!

Solid win over a very good Avalanche team last night. Caps seem to be playing better at the right time as the playoffs are about to start. They even have a chance to pass the Pens in the standings. This would be nice as it would lead to a more favorable first round matchup against the Rags instead of the Panthers.
