Here's the bottom line. Neither of our 2 CFers are providing even adequate offense. Thankfully their defense has been very good. But when neither is hitting well and they are both left handed its not good.

Cowserโ€™s OPS+ going into today was 113. Thatโ€™s 13 points better than league average.

Itโ€™s hard to get into a groove when the Oโ€™s are insisting upon playing time for both Hays and Mullins above Cowser.

I mean, I get why theyโ€™re doing that, and no, itโ€™s not the primary reason for Cowserโ€™s struggles, but thatโ€™s Cowserโ€™s reality.

What I fear is theyโ€™re going to windup morphing Cowser into a platoon role.

I did but dropped him early May when it was clear he cooled off. Itโ€™s a 10 team league with only 2 bench spots so a very shallow league. Canโ€™t afford to hold on for sentiments sake.

Taking Gunnar at the 20/21 turn looks pretty damn brilliant though. I took some slight heat for that โ€œreachโ€ at the time. Fantasy is about projecting though, not being a slave to ADP.

Roto is intense af, especially with a couple of ringers which Pedro has in here. Itโ€™s nearly impossible to best a couple of these guys. Love it though. A daily obsession.

Itโ€™s so much fun. I like flipping out and making bad decisions. For example in my other league I own Dylan Cease who got lit up today โ€” I legit hate him and will prolly trade him this week for 80 cents on the dollar

To me it's totally a labor of love. And the gambling highs and lows are entirely different, because when you win you it all?

You earned that sh...t.

Love Cowser, but have to wonder if he'll be the new Mountcastle. A guy who always has elite Statcast numbers, but a flaw to limit his success. Mountcastle's is his inability to not swing at everything. Cowser's could end up being his whiff rate.

Westburg whiffs a lot too. So does Gunnar actually. Answer is typically to be more aggressive on pitches in the zone early in counts.

Cowser is 30th among all position players in fWAR at 2.1.

Adley 27th at 2.2

Westburg 25th at 2.3

Henderson 2nd at 4.7

Kjerstad's up and Hays gets hot. That means Cowser plays sparingly.

In a perfect world, the O's send Cowser back down to Norfolk to work on his swing approach to off-speed pitches. But this isn't a perfect world, so Cowser's asset of being a really good defensive OF is put to use for the big league club, at the expense of him being able to work out his approach at the plate. Or rather, he's forced to do that in a piecemeal approach.

The only good thing for Cowser is that, aside from Mullins who's also struggled mightily, he's the only guy they're comfortable with getting major reps in CF.

Aside from a scorching hot 2 or 3 week stretch in April, he's been pretty consistently abysmal.

Awful when you have two guys who can play CF and they both are stinking it up.

Awful when you have to play your backup catcher so much because you want to keep your primary guy fresh and DH him a lot.

Yeah, they're definitely using the opposite strategy for Adley's playing time vs. the Wieters "catch him into the ground" approach.  Although with Adley, keeping him fresh for the postseason is a consideration that the Wieters teams didn't really have to care about.

And they're both really bad against left handed pitching.
