It's incredibly telling that most people still didn't even know this story, pre-Watchmen. 

 

Yet people that are stuck on banning CRT and preserving confederate monuments...don't seem to talk about these awful marks that have, essentially, helped shape this country in its current state.

This country has never allowed itself to heal from its worst sins. The fact that the Confederacy is still look upon as some point of pride in this country tells you all you need to know about its stance on race relations. I have said it before, anyone who views that part of history with anything but disdain or a learn-so-that-its-never-repeated POV is either naïve or a racist idiot.

The number of conversations I and other black colleagues have had with white people in Tulsa who doubt the massacre happened or that “it was as bad as they’re saying” is disturbing.

I suppose it’s good that they’re not even bothering to lie?

Now me...
We can't learn and heal from our history if we continue to chose to be ignorant of it.

Yeah we're starting to see the "I don't want this subject taught because it makes white people look bad" thing starting to become a mainstream thing. Slavery, the civil war, colonialism, etc.

 

People need to realize that most truths aren't easily digestible and make you confront things you're not comfortable confronting. At least when you view history through a certain lens.

Yeah we're starting to see the "I don't want this subject taught because it makes white people look bad" thing starting to become a mainstream thing. Slavery, the civil war, colonialism, etc.

People need to realize that most truths aren't easily digestible and make you confront things you're not comfortable confronting. At least when you view history through a certain lens.

In some ways it's a preference for teaching that leads to blind patriotism rather than teaching history that leads to critical thinking.

However the Civil War doesn't make sense in that regard, which suggests what you point out being a bigger factor than allegiance to America.
