At this point, I'm not sure whether Diggs does more harm than good. He makes huge plays, but he's a turnover-machine too. Someone really needs to work with the kid if he's going to have a prayer of making it at the next level.

Eeyore called, he's worried about how depressed you are.

Seriously, you are such a rational poster on everything else, why are you always so overwhelmingly negative when it comes to MD football? Don't know whether Diggs does more harm than good? Turnover machine? Won't have a prayer of making it at the next level?

What games are you watching? He's probably the best thing to happen to MD football since I started following the team in the mid 90's.

I see things different in regards to Diggs. I have been critical of Maryland football but I am starting to see evidence of growth. Diggs, is a freshman who is being counted on to be his teams prime big play guy. Yes, he made a big mistake on the punt but he responded by making a big play on the pass that set up the winning score. He is a freshman 5 games into his first season. If he stays helathy Diggs will play on the next level and more than likely as a high draft pick. I see Desean Jackson when I look at Diggs.

Maryland football has always been a lightning rod. DIggs is going to be an impact player. Almost more importantly then the talent he brings is the fact that he had the guts to join a program that was getting hit by one haymaker after another. Maryland if they are going to grow, and I think they are, has to beat schools like WVA to homegrown talent like Diggs. I still get sick every time I watch Tavon Austin play for WVa. Diggs could have followed a similar path but stayed home. The kid is going to be fine and IMO a lot better than that.

I assume I'm watching the same game you are. Like I said, he'll make a terrific play, and then moments later the ball is on the ground (usually on a return play) and the other team is headed for an easy score. He's an all-or-nothing player at this point. I don't know of many NFL coaches that would be okay with that...at least not ones who want to keep their jobs. Fix the ball security and he could be phenomenal. And it's just a matter of focus. Maybe watching someone else return kicks for a bit will clear his head.

This is an 18 year old kid. He is going to be fine. Maryland needs more like him. Be Patient, as a Maryland fan, I think we are going to enjoy watching him develop.

I understand that if you want to treat this season as strictly about getting players experience. But this defense is good. Even better than I thought they could be. Play a conservative style based on field position and limiting turnovers, and a bowl game might not be out of the question. Heck, a fumble and a missed FG are all that stood between them taking WV to OT. Turnovers are killing them. We'll have to live with Hills just because there really is no other option. But just put someone on punt returns who will fair catch. They won't get a nice return, but they won't give the opposition an easy score either.

Diggs hasn't fumbled nearly as much on offense, so keep him on the field at WR and keep getting him the ball that way.

I see what you are saying, about wanting the offense to manage the game, sort of like the Ravens, Trent Dilfer Super Bowl year, but while the defense is playing well, IMO it is not ready to be put on that island. I think they need to stress ball security with Diggs but IMO he is a threat to break one every time he touches the ball, and as this team is constituted, that element is needed.
As for the Bowl game, maybe they can get to 6 and 5 but IMO, developing this teams talent is more important that playing in some meaningless, made for TV Bowl game.

I see your point about the defense maybe not being good enough to carry them to that many wins. I do think you underestimate the value of a bowl game though, at least for this season. 20 additional practices and an extra game can make a big difference in the development of such an inexperienced team. Not to mention the perception it would give of the program's improvement to recruits, even if it does end up being just the Military Bowl again.

Your point about the practice's and Bowl games is fair, however Diggs, IMO, will need to be the one guy that needs to deliver to get them there. In all honesty though, I can not see Maryland getting the 3 or 4 wins it will take, and I hope I am wrong.
