The Terps face their toughest challenge yet on Thursday night as they host #5 Iowa in College Park. The Hawkeyes currently have a record of 9-2 (3-1) with conference victories over Northwestern, Purdue, and Rutgers, and a road overtime loss to Minnesota. Their lone non-conference loss came to Gonzaga, with a notable victory over North Carolina in early December.
Iowa is led by Washington, DC native and 2019-20 Big Ten Player of the Year Luka Garza, who elected to return for his senior season after withdrawing from the NBA Draft in early August. He's currently averaging 27.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Maryland has struggled to match up against talented big men so far this season, so it's hard to see them having much success at all stopping Garza.
KenPom currently ranks Iowa as the 5th-best team in the country, while Maryland comes in at 45th.
