Acquired on waivers (shocker) from SF.  He replaced Eshelman on the 40.

I actually like this pickup.  Chris Shaw.

He just turned 27 and probably more limited than Mountcastle, so he's more of a DH than LF or 1B.

Orioles lack much LHed power and Shaw could fill that type of a platoon or bench option for the big club.

Bigger guy (6'4", 220) that if you unlock some of the projection he had as a late 1st round pick (1-31) in 2015 then he could be a credible piece to something in the future.

.279/.340/.520 slash in the minors. No real success in SF, but he was always a poor fit there.

Less than a year service (0.060) and he has an option left so he can hang at AAA while we wait out Davis.

I saw something that said he was still rookie eligible in 2021 so I'm sort of surprised he's not updated into the Orioles top 30 on mlb.com (if that's true).  Even at 27 years old I can't believe he has less projection than some other guys in there.  Age is a big thing there, so maybe.

Anyway, may be nothing but he has as probably more opportunity to be interesting than anyone else they've acquired outside of the draft.

If you think things like this can make a difference, he's a north-east kid that's been stuck on the west coast.

Worth a shot.  Nothing really to lose.  As you mentioned, we have very little in the way of left handed hitters so why not.

He is a LH hitter so that gives him a chance.  Unless Mancini, is unable to play, it is hard to see Shaw make the 26 man roster,

If they were to cut Davis, it would open a door, or maybe he could beat out Stewart.

Being LH can only take a guy so far. They still have to fit on a roster. Not sure how he fits on the O's club unless they dump Davis. How many 1B/DH can they carry? Already have one too many.

How do you stash a LF bat on the bench, if his only position is DH? I understand the importance of having bench depth and good bat. But, there are only so many backup roles, and you need a backup Catcher utility infielder and then a backup outfielder that can play Center in a pinch.

Hope he stays in the organization, I liked the idea of having him for depth.

I actually thought Shaw was the type of guy, like Chris Davis years ago, that could hit and become something....more than a lot of guys we've spent time on (Nunez, Alberto) or we're using time on (Martin, Urias).

Some things to like about what he's done, but he's a few months older than Nunez, and Nunez has shown ML production.

I think Nunez and Alberto produced. I don't think either embarrassed themselves, and they served a team that could not care less about winning, fairly well.
